  • Episode #39 ~ Changing The Lens with guest, Lisa Ong

    Send us Fan Mail

In this interview, we talk with Lisa Ong about her article, Changing the Lens ~ How coaching with an inclusive equity lens accelerates cultures of belonging.

As organizations increasingly see the importance of embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into their policies and culture, more leaders are focusing on how to incorporate those ideas.

Coaching is a great skillset for promoting cultures of inclusion and belonging because when you look at the traits for inclusive leaders, giving and getting feedback are two of them.  Being curious and listening. Being open-minded, all of those things and skills that coaches are trained for fit right into DEI&B.

Companies recognized for their DEI work make an effort to embed DEIB into everything they do. It becomes part of the DNA of their culture, and they measure it in their core values and performance expectations.  They don't look at DEIB as an extension of what they do; it becomes part of their brand internally and externally in the community.

As President and Founder of Wishing Out Loud LLC, Lisa is widely known as a "talent gardener" and "inclusion connector” because she coaches and mentors leaders to support the growth and momentum of their DEIB vision. She is a community volunteer, blogger, and frequent podcast guest.

Lisa received a 2022 Leaders in Diversity Award from The Dallas Business Journal. D CEO Magazine named her to The Dallas 500 in 2023,  2021,  and 2020 as "one of the most powerful business leaders in DFW.”

Before Wishing Out Loud LLC, Lisa was a national diversity director in PwC's Office of Diversity and Inclusion. She earned her BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and her MS in Management and Professional Executive Coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas.

  • Episode #37~ Let Down - Coaching teams through disappointment with guest, Julian Humphreys

    Send us Fan Mail

In this interview, we talk with Julian Humphreys about his article, Let Down ~ Coaching teams through disappointment.

Disappointment is often a visceral experience that can feel like the wind has been taken out of your sails, and it can have a long-term impact on the motivation, trust and commitment of a team. Team coaches have an important role to play in helping teams process their disappointment so it doesn't get in the way of setting and meeting future expectations that propel the team forward.

Team coaches need to check in with teams about the attributions they make, so the causes of behaviors that are experienced as disappointing can be more accurately understood and addressed.

Team coaches need to be brought in early so disappointment can be addressed proactively, before it becomes chronic. Team coaches also need to be aware of their own feelings of disappointment, understanding the expectations that are put on them, and that they put on themselves.

To avoid unnecessary disappointment, coaches need to ask themselves
the same questions team members do – are the expectations explicit, are they reasonable, and are the attributions made when expectations are not met accurate enough?

Julian is a Global Executive and Team Coach, helping senior leaders around the world take their careers to the next level by developing critical thinking, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, mindfulness, authenticity and integrity.

He is an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international coaching journal Philosophy of Coaching, and the developer and instructor for the advanced-level ICF-accredited courses Psychology for Coaches, Philosophy for Coaches and Level 3 Mastery.

  • Episode #34 ~ A Brave New World ~ Neurodiversity-inclusion in coaching training with guest, Elaine Taylor-Klaus

    Send us Fan Mail

In this interview, we talk with Elaine Taylor-Klaus about her article A Brave New World ~ Neurodiversity inclusion in coach training.

The brain does not discriminate; neurodiversity is a universal human phenomenon that crosses all racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic and/or religious boundaries.

Neurodiversity-inclusion in coaching invites coaches to dance with the brain’s role in a client’s self-concept and execution of behaviors. To meet all clients where they are, coach training must include information about how people process information differently so coaches can:
    • help clients recognize and embrace neurodiversity;
    • ethically assess whether they feel equipped to support neurodiverse clients;
    • determine when to refer or collaborate with coaches and/or therapists with neurodiversity expertise.

Author, parent educator & certified coach, Elaine is the CEO of ImpactParents.com, founded in 2011 because the support she needed as a parent wasn’t there when her three complex kids were young. Elaine co-created the Sanity School® behavior therapy training program to support parents of complex kids, and has authored Parenting ADHD Now! and The Essential Guide to Raising Complex Kids with ADHD, Anxiety and More. ImpactParents provides training, coaching and support worldwide, empowering parents to guide their children, teens and young adults to become independent and successful – and to enjoy the wild ride of parenting in the process.

Join us as we learn more from Elaine about the difference between neurodiversity and neuroscience and how coach training needs to be updated so that coaches can assess whether or not they are equipped to support their neurodiverse clients.

The willingness to answer the call of leadership is one of the greatest paths to self-discovery, self-discipline and self-denial up which we will ever embark.  The moment you say "Yes" to leadership, the necessity of remaining in a state of readiness is unyielding. Infectious energy is one of your greatest internal resources, and it will be difficult to transfer that which you do not innately possess.

  • Episode #31 ~ Vanguard Conversation Series: Civility

    Send us Fan Mail

Archetypal education offers an experiential opportunity to discover the human patterns that define our lives. Those patterns hold the answers for how to navigate our increasingly disruptive economic, political, environmental, and societal experience. Many people ask others to practice civility as a solution for our social divisions, yet this often leads to silencing each other rather than dialogue that bridges from what is to what could be better.

The world in 2022 calls forth the archetype of the Transformer, which “embraces deconstruction and even death as the compost out of which new beginnings will grow - over time.” Seeing the world through the timelessness of archetypes equips all of us to change in ways that align with life’s true passion and purpose.

Join Janet, Garry and our dear friend, colleague and global leader, Dr. Laurence Hillman, PhD as we explore this archetypal context for CIVILITY, the mindset essential for inclusive and respectful engagement that generates wholeness and belonging for all humanity.

  • Episode #30 ~ The Universe Winks with guest, DJ Mitsch

    Send us Fan Mail

In this interview, we talk with DJ Mitsch about her article, The Universe Winks ~ Creating out of strategic intent

Strategic intent, as defined by Gary Hamel and C.K. Prahald, is the "reason of existence of an organization and the ends it wants to achieve."  While this is a solid definition, what is missing in this statement is that a strategic intent also harnesses a law of physics: whatever you intend and hold as possible will draw you forward or compel you to attain it.  Taking note of this, DJ helped to start the Pyramid Resource Group with a solid business plan that was obsolete by the time it went to print. As the business grew, the notion of creating out of strategic intent became their pattern.

DJ is a thought leader in the business coaching field, as a founding member of the International Coaching Federation and one of the first 25 coaches in the world to earn a Master Certified Coach designation.

She was the 6th President of ICF Global where she developed the template and committees to shape chapter development throughout the world.  DJ is also the CEO of Pyramid Resource Group, Inc a 25 year-old award winning coaching company, and founder of Pyramid’s Leadership and Healthcare Coaching Institute.
