Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

One of the coolest, and rarest things, you see from a band as they grow for many year is longtime fans joining as members. But why is it one of the coolest things you could see?

Pretty simple actually. It is because not only do those fans bring their ow personal influences to the music to help it evolve, but they have a built-in knowledge and respect of the original sound to evolve the band in the right way.

The guys from Showoff join the Chord Progression Podcast today. As they release the brand new EP, Haverstraw, enjoy as we discuss:

• How the band integrated longtime fans as band members, and did so with the most amount of success possible for their sound and for their future.
• Why they are willing to break the rules of music and music theory in order to make a good song.
• The deep reason why melody carrier emotion of a specific moment for all of us, and the understanding Showoff has when implementing that into their music.

A great band to check out that we can say is partially from our hometown. So tap that subscribe button, so you do not miss out on the vast array of more that is to come.

Back in 2018, Kerrang called this band one of the 6 Underground Metal Bands Redefining the Scene. In the past 6 years, this band has continued to make heavy music to please your ears, and make you fall in love with metalcore all over again.

Now in 2024, how are they living up to that moniker of a band redefining the scene? Well there is a new album coming out, and it includes an evolved sound on it as well.

Jack from Pittsburgh metalcore band 156/Silence joins the Chord Progression Podcast. With the band on tour supporting Sings of the Swarm, and with a new album "People Watching" due out on September, we answer that question by discussing:

• How the band evolved their sound on People Watching by including more synths and cleans that were inspired by metalcore from the early to mid 2000's (think onlder The Devil Wears Prada for reference).
• Why trying new things with your music fosters your continued creativity, and the reason you should not just stick with the same sound and riffs over and over again.
• With a greater focus on both clean singing and unclean scraems, what Jack has been doing to prioritize his vocal health on stage.

A fantastic episode right before the release of a new dynamic album. Want more moments like this? Hit the subscribe button for more.

Today's world is dominated by a focus on the fake world of social media, and a fear to stand for anything that has the smallest chance of being seen as controversial. It has caused so much of us to focus on what is on the screen in front of us compared to real life.

However, there is a metal band that focuses on the opposite. Focusing on the world in front of us, standing up for what they believe in, and making the live experience one you need to be a part of.

Waylon from A Killer's Confession joins the Chord Progression Podcast with the release of the new album, Victim 1, ready to come out in September. So on this episode, we talk with Waylon about:

• Why he is not afraid to push out his message of protecting kids at all costs into everything A Killer's Confession does, and isn't afraid to stand tall on that.
• How social media and Tik Tok have ruined the human experience and our fight to preserve genuine art in a world of fake.
• A preview of the new album, Victim 1, and how it is conceptualized in a 3 part story that will continue as the years go on.

Has your favorite band evolved their sound over time? Of course they have! As time goes on, bands evolve their sound as life influences their interests differently.

Now this band that has toured with Alter Bridge, Mammoth WVH, and Fozzy is doing the same, and is ready to take that next step to becoming a much bigger band than you could imagine.

The guys in Pistols at Dawn join the Chord Progression Podcast today. With more new music being released in the coming year, we sit back and discuss

• The new direction of their music with a much broader influence in programming, and how Not Sorry is a taste of the sound that is to come.
• Embracing the randomness of social media to help grow the band, all while keeping each piece of content connected to the music that they are making overall.
• Why having the mindset of a headliner when you are the opening band will help you mentally drive to being that headlining act. Yes, in a manifestation way.

Fame On Fire has been on the consistent rise in the rock and metal world since the release of Welcome To The Chaos in 2022. Touring with bands like Falling In Reverse, and going out on their own headlining tour, has shown they are here to stay.

So what is next for the band in 2024 with a new album set to release in September? Well that was something that we wanted to find out as well.

Bryan from Fame On Fire returns to the Chord Progression Podcast for the first time since 2021. With a new album called The Death Card due to release on September 6th, join us as we discover the album talking about

• How the band used Tarot cards to inspire each song on the album, and why Bryan dove so deep into the Tarot world in order to ensure his lyrics hit on every level.
• A number of the unreleased songs on the album, and why Lie To Me may be Bryan's best and most vulnerable song to date.
• Why it is a good idea to show some love for your bus driver while on the road.

2 years ago when Future Palace released their second album run, we brought lead singer Maria to the podcast. And we thought the band would grow large following that album. So what happened to them?

While they have not toured the USA (yet), they have grown over in Europe playing support slots for Electric Callboy, becoming a mainstay on major festival lineups across the continent, and going on European-wide headlining tours. However, the band has also dealt with personal struggles accepting this success, and growing in confidence while not showing fear in expressing their beliefs through the music they make.

With the release of the band's 3rd album, Distortion, set to come out on September 6th, Maria returns to the Chord Progression Podcast to prepare you for the rise of Future Palace across the world. We discuss

• Maria's struggle dealing with imposter syndrome, as the band works to accept their fantastic growth and understand that the positive impact caused by their music is well deserved.
• The reaction to the single The Echoes of Disparity, and why Maria will continue to be herself and fully express her views in music, along with the reality in response the band may have to deal with going forward.
• A look into the new album, why A Fool on a Devil's Reins may just be their best song so far, and why this should be the album to send Future Palace into the next level of success.

In early 2023, we had a band reach out to us about wanting to be on the podcast to show off the new music they had been working on. But without warning, they vanished on us. So what happened to them?

Well, middle of 2024, this metalcore band came back with new music, and a whole story to tell about why it took so long. And any artist or musician can watch this and learn a thing or 2 about the music creation process.

The guys from California's own Screams Of Syrens join the Chord Progression Podcast. With new music coming out very soon, we dive deep into.

• The story of the band over the past year, and the difficulty of writing new music with a rotating roster of band members during that process.
• A stressed importance of finding the right band chemistry and building on it in order to make sure there is success going forward for every facet of the band.
• Why the band stepped back from social media during the writing process to focus on the 'product' and why you should do the same.
• If the new music will make you do the Robert De Niro stank face.

Over time, we in music have seen many members of other bands come together and form super groups. And the results always depend on overall band chemistry, and willingness to adapt to a different writing style.

This European super group shows how overall chemistry works to create great music that hits on every level from metal to post-hardcore, and why a focus on mental health made this band click on every level.

Timo (Our Mirage) from the supergroup Alleviate joins the Chord Progression Podcast today! With a new album called DMNS ready to release on August 23rd, we sit down and chat about

• The band's origin story including being inspired by an online session of GTA, and how Nik Nocturnal is involved with all of this.
• Why the band put so much focus on mental health with DMNS, including how they experienced standing by other members of the band when mental health issues arose during the writing process.
• A look into DMNS, and why the heavier backing mixed with lighter production always has the perfect contrast on every song.

Fans are always concerned when their favorite band begins to evolve their sound. They are afraid that it is going to change the band, the music, and take away from something they love. But fans don't think about who is even more scared than they are... the band themselves.

We went to Germany to find a band that is evolving the sound on their 4th record, discover why they were nervous to do it, but show why it was the right choice in the end.

Sven from the German metalcore/post-hardcore band Rising Insane joins the Chord Progression Podcast today! With a brand new album, Wildfires, coming out on August 23rd, we end up getting into it with Sven talking about:

• How Rising Insane worked to grow and evolve their sound on this record, and why they were nervous about going through a new process.
• The songs on the new album Wildfires and why they were a lot more open emotionally than before.
• Greatness surrounding German Metal Festivals and why you should attend one.

As rock and metal have begun a return to resurgence in pop culture popularity in the 2020's, we are getting closer and closer to the next "golden age" of heavy music?

But what is causing this resurgence to a golden age? Who are the artists and the rockstars making this happen? Why are rockstars something that we need? And what is it about the new music being made that is causing metal to thrive? We have one of the artists massively emerging in this to show you.

Jeris Johnson joins the Chord Progression Podcast today with his new album, Dragonborn, ready to be released on August 23rd. On this episode, go deep with Jeris Johnson and us as we talk about:

• Music being a marathon and not a sprint, and why Jeris is always looking to improve in music, knowing authenticity and passion will shine through. A reason why he is massively endorsed by Ronnie Radke.
• The reason why metal music is growing, but has not hit the next golden age just yet, and the reason why we are all attracted to rockstars.
• A look into the new album DRAGONBORN, and why this album is just another step the in ever-evolving sound that Jeris has.
