Lyricism in music is essentially poetry in action. Audiences are able to feel the creative construct of the lyrics, and feel the emotion of that poetry through the instrumentation.

When artists take the literary concepts of poetry and employ them in their music, we get songs that can be deep, catchy, and take us on the strongest emotional journeys possible.

Chaney from the Dallas based alt rock band House Parties joins the Chord Progression Podcast today! This episode dives deep into

• The power of poetry and its concepts in lyric writing to create emotionally charged songs that audiences will be able to emotionally follow with ease.
• That time House Parties played a set in a literal cave thanks to the Is For Lovers Fest.
• A last minute opportunity to play 8123 day with The Maine, and the importance of taking opportunity when it comes for you.

Seeing live music is an experience, and that experience is amplified if the artists on stage are enjoying it as much as you are. They are the hosts of the party, and we in the crowd feed off of that energy.

When artists understand all of this, they generate positivity that makes fans want to come back for more, and get more and more into it. It is a fantastic, never ending cycle.

The guys from Transient join the podcast to show you exactly that. In this episode, we discuss.

• Why you shouldn't take yourself too seriously as an artist in a live setting, and see yourselves as the host of the best party that night.
• The willingness to be open to new ideas, that led to a music video filmed in the trenches, and ended with a visit from the fire department.
• How important band chemistry is, and how it impacts the overall writing and creative experience with new music.

Brand new music, and the opportunity to finally play live in front of an entire continent that will experience you for the first time. That is a big task to take on but the question is this, how can you be successful in winning over fans?

Many bands face this, and the ones that succeed are the ones that have long lasting careers. This band today, has that opportunity, and is ready to show you how they plan to win.

Mike from the UK metalcore/nu metal band Profiler joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. This episode, we discuss

• How Profiler is going to win over fans on their first European tour, from a proper use of backing tracks to allow for more interaction, and a readiness to change the set list up to match the crowd vibe.
• Why Profiler decided to wait to tour for a while following their signing with Sharptone right before the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The new upcoming album A Digital Nowhere, and what songs you should look out for on the album.

We all have an intense emotional connection to the music we love, and we know that the artists who make it have that connection intensified when writing from personal experience. But how do they hit on the emotion so heavily and perfectly.

They do it by reliving, recreating, and regenerating those repressed emotions, bringing them to the forefront, and writing from such an intense place. It isn't easy, but it is necessary to keep the music GENUINE.

Spizz and Joe from Advents join the Chord Progression Podcast! Following the release of their recent EP, Persona Melodies, we dive deep into:

• How the emotional writing process they undertook was completed, that included seclusion, diving into repressed emotions, and generating lyrics from a hot tub.
• The focus Advents put on creating a sound and an expectation of that sound that would not let them be constrained to a genre or an expected sound.
• Why Advents focused on building a fanbase online first before playing live shows.

If you watched WWE Wrestling between 2002 and 2006, you have fond memories of The Union Underground opening every single show with their song Across The Nation. It brings back fond memories for many, but what ever happened to that band?

Kevin's Final Thought; Enjoy The Return of All These Bands

If you want your local scene to grow, thrive, and succeed for many years to come, you are going to need a few things. You're going to need good music, a fan base to rally around, an environment where the scene is one big happy family, and the ability to inspire the next generation of musicians.

We have found that in the Canadian Hardcore Scene, and we have also found great bands that are pushing the scene to new heights, while still inspiring the next generation.

Kyle and Jonah from Bad Bet, one of the most recommended bands from the scene, join the Chord Progression Podcast today. On this episode, we go deep into:

• How bands in the Canadian Hardcore scene are inspiring younger musicians to try their hands in music, and motivate them to be better musicians.
• The difference between touring in Canada vs. the USA, and why it is more difficult given the Canadian geography.
• Why making it in music now is more believable and possible due to the barriers of entry being less than they were 10, 20, 30 years ago.

We all know one of the many goals of a growing band is to sign a record deal, a goal that has been around for over 70 years.

But knowing what type of label is going to be the best for your band is paramount. If you are a growing band with other responsibilities or are in need of help when it comes to the business side, a developmental label may just be right from you.

We have Mr. Cody Frain (A Scent Like Wolves, If Not For Me), one of the founders of Theoria Records, on the Chord Progression Podcast today. Cody is no stranger to the podcast, but this time we talk about the record label side of things, going deep into:

• Why Theoria was created by artists for developing artists, making a label that is empathetic to a growing artist, and not only focused on profits.
• The importance of artist coaching to the label, with a focus on helping artists grow on the business side and helping to prevent longer ruts and burnout.
• Prioritizing fan connection over obsessing about streaming numbers, humanizing the band for grander impact.

A new type of episode great for any new band to check out. Hit subscribe to discover more great bands that you can become fans of.
