Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

No one likes when a person speaks passionately about a topic, advocates for change, and then takes no action to make that change happen. In 2023, we live in a world of keyboard warriors. All show and no go.

However, there is a band in the Canadian music scene that is in the business of doing, standing up for their growing community and supporting the indigenous community as well.

Canadian sludge/doom metal band Ethereal Tomb joins the podcast as we continue to spotlight the Canadian Hardcore scene and its influences around the country. In this episode you will discover a band that:

• Is in the business of doing, and helping other bands and aspiring musicians to get out of their own way to start doing.
• Uses their platform and ability to support, and inspire Native communities in Canada through representation and inspiration of the Native youth.
• Progresses their sound as members continue to improve their skills, by attempting more complex and intricate musical experimentation.

This is one of the best episodes to close out your 2023. So don't miss more like this coming in 2024. Hit that subscribe button NOW!

There has been a major theme and characteristic that every successful band we have ever brought onto the podcast has, and that is strong chemistry to prevail against anything thrown their way.

We found a Canadian band that lost an integral member in the most unfortunate way, but band chemistry and friendship has allowed them to continue growing, while honoring a member's legacy.

We have London, Ontario punk/metalcore band No Exceptions joining the Chord Progression Podcast today. On this episode, we dive into:

• How No Exceptions lost an important member and worked to honor his legacy while continuing to build on the band's sound.
• Why the music and friendship are more important than money in the long term of life.
• The creation of the new EP "To Whom It May Concern" and how the band created a larger and more expansive sound, honoring their brother, and setting the band up for the next chapter.

Put yourself in this scenario. Your passion for music has you in a band, you're working on your first album, and starting to play live shows. Then a global pandemic hits, some members leave to pursue other interests, and all of your equipment is lost in a studio fire. Would you call it quits? Or would you keep going?

Well, this actually happened to a band in Germany. And with their debut album coming out this week, it is easy to say the answer is to stay resilient and KEEP GOING!

German Metalcore band MAVIS is our guest today, and with the release of their new album due this week, you will discover:

• How MAVIS went through so much in their time, and how RESILIENCE should be their new name.
• A look into the new album "Grief Is No Ally" and how its creation comes in the form of 3 separate eras of the band over the past 3 years.
• What initial live reaction has been like, and why MAVIS isn't afraid to search for influences outside the norms of metalcore.

A great episode to discover a great story of passion and resilience. Many more bands have stories like this and the best way to hear them... SUBSCRIBE to the Chord Progression Podcast!

For many people that live their life in the arts and the creative space, living life on "autopilot" feels like a prison sentence that constricts the happiness in life.

But for creatives that make their way in life with their art, and have the support of family and friends in that endeavor, it allows for that art to positively impact everyone who comes into contact with it.

Alternative Metalcore band NVRLESS joins the Chord Progression Podcast for a creative-inspired episode where we talk about:

• How people connect with others who have the same energy and motivation, and why creatives don't connect living life on "autopilot."
• The importance of having support from your family and friends when you are making music or any kind of art.
• If your art has the ability to impact someone, you are doing the right thing.

We found a man that loves rock music just as much as we do, and has literally done it all.

He's sold records to record stores when they were popular, signed Poison to Enigma Records, was the director of marketing for another label, ran his own record label, and managed bands for 18 years. Now he is doing a podcast interviewing great bands and telling his stories. Needless to say, he might be the most interesting man in the world.

From Blowing Smoke with Twisted Rico, host Steve Rico is our guest on the Chord Progression Podcast. We dive deep into his incredible life story detailing:

• All of the jobs he has had in the music industry, and how he was able to sign bands like Poison to a record deal.
• Why Steve's life has been so interesting, and it all comes from a want to not live life stagnant.
• The importance of the little things meaning a lot to him, from the bands he has met, the people he has worked with, and everything in between.

This is an amazing episode with the most interesting man in music. Be sure to hit subscribe for more of the Chord Progression Podcast.

Is it possible that a young band can capture the attention of kids in the hardcore scene, as well as older blue collar fans as well?

We found out the answer to that is yes, and that band is a growing presence in the Canadian hardcore scene.

Niko and Gatlin from Sudbury's Rock Pyle are our guest on the Chord Progression Podcast today. Another great episode to get you into the Canadian Hardcore scene where we discuss:

• How Rock Pyle's first song connected not only with the younger fans in the scene, but also older, mining workers across Canada.

Today's state of the world for new bands and artists in the music scene is rough. You have to do anything and everything to get noticed, and social media platforms aren't helping with so much noise.

But we figured out what these artists must do in order to get noticed, and that is to SHOOT YOUR SHOT.

Josh from Sugar Spine returns to the podcast after a year and a half, with a brand new album, Emerald, that is available NOW! So on this episode, we discuss:

• How taking risks and shooting his shot allowed Josh to have features with Bleed From Within and To The Grave on Emerald.
• What Josh did in the production of Emerald to make it sound like a band that has been there plenty of times before.
• An incredible idea that Tik Tok and Spotify can use to make music discovery even easier for bands & fans, and possibly advantageous for everyone involved.

A great time catching up with an old friend, and a great way for you to discover new music. Hit that subscribe button and not miss out on more great music.

When a band has a male and female singer consistently singing in duet style, would you think they were always talking about relationships? Probably, because we are used to seeing that.

But what if it there is a band doing it differently, taking the duet style and using it as an impactful form of storytelling and offering 2 intertwining perspectives on the same topic? Now that would be a band to check out.

We have Alyse and Oscar from LYLVC on the podcast today, from their tour with Fame on Fire and Pop Evil. On this episode we dive deep into:

• How LYLVC writes their lyrics from two different perspectives on the same topic, as explained by their most popular song "Perfect Drug."
• Why "Crawl Space" was written so fans and music lovers they are never alone, no matter how alone they feel.
• The live performance style of LYLVC, and how their approach to cross-generation fans attracts those of all ages, especially younger kids.

If you are not into this band, this is the episode that will make you a fan. So hit that subscribe button and not miss out on any more great bands.
