Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

If a band got signed to a major record label because someone from the label slid into their DM's, you would think it isn't possible right?

Well that exact same thing happened to these guys, and I don't think it could have happened any other way.

The boys from Post Profit return to the Chord Progression Podcast for the first time in 2 years. In this episode, we catch up with them and discuss

• How the band signed with Sharptone records, thanks to the label sliding into their DMs.
• A feeling that the band got a "soft" reboot following the signing, and how a tour with Nothing More taught them how to be a band at the next level.
• Fan and crowd reception to the expanding musical direction of Post Profit with the brand new Self Defeater EP.

A great catch up with a great band, so hit that subscribe button and not miss out on this fantastic episode.

When a band creates a tagline such as "We Know, We Used To Be Heavier," would you want to take a listen to their new music?

If it was something more diverse, more immersive, and still maintains some of the older, heavier elements inside, it must be worth it.

Trevor of Wind Walkers is our guest on today's Chord Progression Podcast prior to the release of the new album "What If I Break" on November 17th. In this episode you will learn:

• Why Wind Walkers changed their sound with Trevor as lead vocalist, and what nerves came up when releasing new music for the first time.
• How the production of the entire album is top notch, amplifying each vocal pattern, each backing instrumental, and each outside influence to perfection.
• The plan of the band to take streaming number success and turn it into success live and in concert.

A great way to discover a great band before the release of a new album. So hit that subscribe button if you want to discover more great rock and metal music in your life.

One of our main goals after hearing about the Canadian hardcore scene was to put a spotlight on it, and we want to make good not act promise.

So we found a band that is professionally producing their own hardcore themselves, creating the most wild live shows possible, and possibly creating the most wild hardcore cover ever.

The boys in Solpais (pronounced like Soul Pays) are on the podcast today. This young hardcore band from Canada is here for you to discover:

• How understanding their hardcore sound allows them to produce it professionally, while keeping the grittiness of the genre present.
• The wild mindset the boys have around making their live shows the craziest thing you will experience, and something you will never forget.
• One of the greatest ideas ever conceived, a Creed hardcore cover.

Don't miss us continuing to spotlight Canadian hardcore, tap that subscribe button and stay in the know when more bands come to the podcast.

In today's world when bands are either using backing tracks live a lot, or going all natural on stage, as long as the show is received well by the fans is what matters.

For the bands that don't use tracks, the ability to find analog solutions to digital problems is paramount, and can really set your band apart from the rest in a live setting.

Tom and Zach from the stoner metal band Howling Giant are here on the Chord Progression Podcast. Fresh off the release of their new album, Glass Future, the guys are here to talk about:

• Why starting the album cycle in Europe, outside of their core market, made the most sense.
• Finding Analog Solutions to Digital Problems, to create the best live show for Howling Giant.
• Glass Future, summarizing the sound of the album, and why the band has their own hot sauce for sale.

We all remember the bands that carve out their own space in the music scene with a unique sound that crosses fans of different genres. Bring Me The Horizon, Ice Nine Kills and their horror focus, and more.

But what allows bands to experiment like this when they release new music? Taking charge of the production is one main way, and it happened here.

One of our favorite guests, Joey Varela of VRSTY, has returned to the podcast once again to support the release of the new VRSTY album Levitate. In this episode, you will discover:

• How producing Levitate by himself with the help of producer Justin DeBlieck (Ice Nine Kills) allowed this album to be as expansive as it is.
• The initial reservation others had on the song Kill The Rich, and how the feature with Andy Cizek came to be.
• How Joey sees social media's effect on the music industry, from the ability to connect with so many other bands, but the downfall of constant posting on many different platforms.

The Canadian Hardcore scene is a hot bed of great new talent, new bands, and everything else you could possibly want in music.

But how did this scene all grow, how did it come to be, and why should you join in and be a part of it? That is what we are here to answer.

Rob from the hardcore band Rust joins us as the perfect person to show you the Canadian hardcore scene. On this episode, we discuss:

• How the Canadian hardcore scene right after the pandemic, and why bands from the United States are traveling just to play there.
• Why the scene was built with a "family" mentality, offering a safe space for many kids and fans to come and feel free to be themselves.
• The community that has been created by the scene, and why that is attracting more kids, and more bands, to join everyday.

Our deep dive into the Canadian hardcore scenes begins with Rust. Follow them, and subscribe to the podcast as we continue to explore the scene.

Great things never happened to those who played it safe!

That is a little bit of a loaded statement, but think about all of your favorite bands and artists. They would not have gotten to that point if they didn't take a risk.

That is one of the reasons why the Dollyrots have been around for so long, and we have the couple of Kelly and Luis on the podcast for you today. On this episode, we dive deep into

• How the couple has taken calculated risks all throughout their careers, that has led them to tour the world, make music, and have a family, with so many great experiences and stories to share (that many young bands can draw inspiration from).
• The time Kelly handed Joan Jett the band's music, and that ended up with the Dollyrots signing with Joan Jett's record label.
• Night Owls, the brand new album, and the theory behind why reviewers have called it "Astounding Musical Perfection."

How do you respond in life when it seems like your world is crashing down around you, and there is no visible end in sight?

Do you give up, pack it up, and call it a day? Or do you work through those moments of adversity, and come out the other side stronger than you ever thought possible?

It is our honor to have Tyler Tate from Hollow Front back on the podcast once again. With the release of the band's 3rd album, The Fear of Letting Go, releasing on October 27th, we dive into:

• Everything that has happened with the band since the van crash of 2022, losing Dakota and Brandon as band members, and how Tyler almost gave up as well.
• How the band is operating as a 2 piece between Tyler and Lee, and how the new album was constructed with this new dynamic.
• Diving deep into the album's themes around the van crash and aftermath, Tyler's relationship with his mother on Over the Cradle, and analyzing Tyler's clean singing.

When a legendary musician leaves his old band and forms a brand new one, and no one knows what to expect, how do you win over fans?

The band already has the intrigue, and live shows make sense to expose the sound to the fans, but doing it before the release of a full album makes this almost impossible.

We are pleased to be joined by Wes from the band Flat Black on the podcast today. As Flat Black is opening for an arena tour showing everyone who they are for the first time, we talk about:

• Having a "fans first" mentality in a live show setting, doing what you can to respect the fans choice to see your and win them over, from preparation to the actual show.
• The Great Debate of using backing tracks live, why Flat Black tries not to, and why it makes sense for all the bands that do (and yes, we talk about Ronnie Radke in this one).
• What to expect on Flat Black's debut album, from a "masked" feature, to infusing country into a song, and going even heavier than their singles.

A fantastic way to discover a brand new metal band bound to be big, so follow them and subscribe to the podcast to never miss another great artist.
