Chord Progression Podcast: The Gateway to New Rock and Metal Music

Trying to grow pop punk music in the country music capital seems like a crazy idea right? Possibly.

But what if a new artist is doing it and taking advantage of the amount of music lovers living and traveling to the scene on the daily.

Newer Pop Punk artist Cameron Alexander is our featured guest on the Chord Progression Podcast today to talk all about:

• The decision to move to Nashville and why it is important to try and grow your music in a city with a love for music.
• How having a "growth mindset" is important at any age of a musicians life, especially earlier on when many people are better skilled than you are.
• Cameron's new song Time To Break Up and why it is the reverse of every pop punk breakup song that you have ever heard.

A new artist is always great to discover. Keep discovering new artists with us by subscribing to the Chord Progression Podcast.

As music fans, we think we know more about the music industry and its inner workings than we actually do. Whether it is around promoting music, where all the money goes, and why bands do or do not spend money.

But when you get a chance to uncover pieces of that, we all receive a better understanding of what life is like for a band, and why they make the business decisions that they do.

Archie from the UK band Immerse joins us on the podcast today to talk all about this. This includes topics from

• Why bands may not promote a non-single that hits it big with the audience.
• The importance bands put on their musical directions and artistic creation over economic gain and possibly "selling out."
• Venue Merch Cuts and how Immerse may try and sidestep that with the merch van idea.

A great episode to dive into. Make sure you dive into more by hitting that subscribe button.

Kevin's Final Thought; Reflecting on Archie's Final Comment: (56:04)

When bands create songs with features, most of the time the features are isolated in the second verse or the bridge, and don't always blend as well as they could.

But the philosophy of using a feature as a way to marry the sounds of 2 different bands into one, creating something truly unique.

It is our pleasure to bring Telle Smith of The Word Alive to the Chord Progression Podcast today. In this episode, we dive into:

• How The Word Alive created songs with features as if both bands were coming together and having a sound baby, with features from Bad Omens, Escape the Fate, and From First to Last.
• The reception of a newer songwriting mindset that was presented on the band's newest album Hard Reset.
• How Telle's songwriting influence has changed over the years, from being influence by those around him, now into her personal experiences.

We know about many of the countries that are producing great heavy music like the USA, the UK, Germany, Australia. But what about Canada?

What happened during the pandemic to make Canada a haven for a growing hardcore scene that is about to explode onto the world stage?

We dive deep into that and many other topics with Canadien metalcore band The Northern today, talking all about:

• How the Canadian response to the pandemic forced a lot of artists into tough positions, leading to an emergence of the Canadian hardcore scene.
• The band's latest single Usurper, and how it's themes around being taken advantage directly relate to the band's previous record label.
• A possible split EP or album coming alongside another Canadian band.

3 years ago, we interviewed a teenage girl from Australia on the podcast. She was ambitious, excited about what the future might hold, and with a love of rock music in her heart.

As of today, she has kept that ambition and that excitement. And that has lead to a record deal, touring around the world, and creating connections with people from all ages.

We have Cassidy Paris back on the podcast today, now 20 years old and living her rock dreams every day. On this episode with Cassidy, we talk about:

• Becoming the youngest musician to get a record deal from Frontiers Music SLR at the age of 20.
• Her upcoming debut album walking through her journey as a teenager, dealing with bullying for the type of music she liked.
• How Cassidy is creating connections with older fans & kids with both her style of music and her messages.

A fantastic young artist to start supporting, and even more to come on the Chord Progression Podcast. Hit subscribe to not miss out on any of this.

Whether you are an artist, a business professional, a creative, anything, Wayne Gretzky said it best. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

From a musicians perspective, this means taking every shot you can to make your music known to the massive, and to have your band blow up and grow.

Our friend Daemien from Reddstar returns to the podcast after 2 years for a great episode diving into:

- How the band got booked to play Welcome to Rockville, Louder Than Life, & Aftershock festival in 2023.

- Why always pushing your music and not being deterred by rejection is the key to achieving huge opportunities for your band & art.

- The difficulty of succeeding in a creative space, and why it is massively different compared to difficult career paths like a doctor.

Evolution is an important part of life. None of us are the same person that we were 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago.

Musicians are the same. As time goes on, new experiences and new perspectives will bring forward an evolution of sound. And no, that's not selling out.

We have Kaan from the UK's Heart of A Coward on the podcast today. With the band's new album, This Place Only Brings Death, releasing on September 22nd, we talk about:

• Why the band evolved into more of an aggressive metalcore style from more of a progressive style, and experimented off of it.
• The reason This Place Only Brings Death dives deep into the harsh realties of life that we are all living in today.
• Reasons to see Heart of a Coward live when Kaan pitches to us like this is Shark Tank.

In the heavy music scene, fans thing of Australia as a country producing the best quality heavy music out there. Think The Amity Affliction, Make Them Suffer, Polaris, Alpha Wolf, and more.

But why does a country that is so isolated geographically from the rest of the world consistently put out some of the best heavy music in the world on a consistent basis. One of the next great Australian heavy bands tells us why.

Riley and Brenton from the Australian metalcore band Weightless joins the podcast today for a great Australian heavy music episode to discuss.

• The vote of confidence the band received from Triple J Unearthed (the Australian version of Sirius XM Octane for Americans) and how its helping the band gain mainstream appeal in Australia.
• What the reason is behind the massive growth of Australian heavy music around the world, despite the geographic isolation.
• How we can bring more and more heavy music to Australia on a consistent basis.

Heavy music fans will love this one and so many other episodes we have available for you. So hit that subscribe button to not miss out on any more.
