What does it look like for a dad to lead his family toward Jesus? Pastor Chris Teien explores four qualities of a W.E.L.L. life: worshiping God, encouraging others, learning godly living, and loving with practical care.
Drawing from Joshua 24:14–15 and other Scriptures, this message encourages fathers, grandfathers, and spiritual mentors to invest in the next generation. Discover how your priorities, words, willingness to grow, and everyday example can help others learn to trust Christ.
IN THIS MESSAGE
1. DADS ARE WORSHIPERS
Joshua’s commitment to serve the Lord challenges fathers to consider who directs their lives. Worship shapes your priorities, decisions, and response to uncertainty. Seek to know Christ more deeply and let your family see you trusting His guidance in ordinary responsibilities. (Joshua 24:14–15; Philippians 3:10; 2 Timothy 1:12; Psalm 32:8)
2. DADS ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO BECOME WORSHIPERS
Fathers can help children understand the gospel and grow in confidence in God’s care. Share why you trust Jesus, encourage their questions, and pray with them through real concerns. Help them learn to depend on His strength and wisdom as they take steps of faith. (Romans 1:16; Psalm 91:14; Philippians 4:13; Philippians 4:19)
3. DADS LEARN GODLY LIVING
God’s Word should first shape your own heart, then influence what you teach and model. Keep learning, address unhealthy family patterns, and guide your children with patient instruction and loving correction. Take responsibility for your conduct and avoid treatment that provokes anger or discouragement. (Deuteronomy 6:5–7; Exodus 20:5–6; Ephesians 6:4)
4. DADS LOVE AND PROVIDE
Jesus describes the heavenly Father’s goodness, and Scripture celebrates the adoption believers receive through Christ. His fatherly care gives dads a pattern for loving their families. Offer your time, attention, practical provision, and forgiveness as you help those in your care understand His grace. (Matthew 7:7–11; Galatians 4:5–7; John 1:12; Romans 8:15–16; Colossians 3:13)
BE ENCOURAGED
You can strengthen your influence through one thoughtful choice today. Listen to a child or grandchild, pray together, share a Scripture, or apologize for a wrong you need to address. Ask God to help you grow as a worshiper, encourager, learner, and loving father. Keep pointing your family toward Jesus through faithful, everyday care.

How can a mother’s faith make a lasting difference in a child’s life? Pastor Chris Teien explores the influence of mothers, grandmothers, and women who help the next generation know Jesus. This Mother’s Day message also recognizes the grief, disappointment, and complicated memories the occasion can bring.
Drawing from Timothy’s family story and other Scriptures, discover how godly character, patient instruction, and everyday example nurture faith. You do not have to be a perfect parent to make a meaningful investment in someone’s walk with Christ.
IN THIS MESSAGE
1. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER
Scripture calls us to honor our parents, while real family experiences may include both gratitude and pain. Consider how to express appreciation and show respect with honesty and wisdom. Make room for those whose Mother’s Day includes loss, strained relationships, or unmet hopes. (Exodus 20:12; Ephesians 6:1–3)
2. VALUE GODLY CHARACTER OVER PERFECTION
Proverbs 31 celebrates wisdom, diligence, generosity, strength, and reverence for the Lord. These qualities invite us to value faithful character as we grow in obedience to God. Receive encouragement from this passage without treating it as a demand to excel at every responsibility at once. (Proverbs 31:10–31)
3. BE A MOTHER OF INFLUENCE
Paul recognized the sincere faith that lived in Timothy’s grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Their example reminds us that faithful influence can reach across generations. Pray, model trust in God, and use ordinary conversations to help younger people understand why you follow Christ. (2 Timothy 1:1–5)
4. BE A MOTHER WHO INSTRUCTS
Paul reminds Timothy that the Scriptures he learned from childhood could make him wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Read God’s Word together, welcome questions, and explain the gospel clearly. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers can work alongside the church to help children learn and apply biblical truth. (Proverbs 1:8; 2 Timothy 3:14–17)
BE ENCOURAGED
Your faithful care can make a difference through ordinary moments. Pray with a child, share a Scripture, or listen to a question about faith. If you need to acknowledge a mistake, do so with humility and seek forgiveness. Honor someone who has invested in your life, and keep pointing the next generation toward Jesus as you depend on His grace.

What does following Jesus mean when it calls for sacrifice? Teaching from Luke 9:23–25, Pastor Chris Teien explores Christ’s call to deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Him.
Jesus gave this instruction after telling His disciples about His coming death and resurrection. Discover how knowing Him changes your priorities, gives you courage to obey, and helps you value eternal life above temporary success, security, or approval.
“Chase What Matters” Message Series 2 of 4
IN THIS MESSAGE
1. STEP UP BY DENYING YOURSELF DAILY
Jesus calls His followers to place their lives under His authority. Denying yourself involves surrendering pride, control, and desires that compete with obedience to Him. Let Scripture shape your thinking and give Christ priority in your everyday decisions. (Luke 9:23; Romans 12:2; Galatians 2:20)
2. STEP UP BY CARRYING YOUR CROSS BOLDLY
Taking up your cross means identifying with Jesus and remaining willing to follow Him when obedience brings sacrifice or opposition. This daily commitment grows from trusting the Savior who gave Himself for you. Depend on His grace as you choose faithfulness, even when it is costly. (Matthew 10:38; Luke 9:23)
3. STEP UP BY TRADING LOSS FOR ETERNAL GAIN
Jesus warns that gaining the world cannot compensate for losing your life. The rich man who walked away from Him illustrates how possessions can compete with devotion to Christ. Examine what you are protecting and value the life Jesus offers above earthly recognition or comfort. (Matthew 5:11–12; Mark 10:17–22; Luke 9:24–25)
4. STEP UP BY PUTTING CHRIST FIRST IN EVERYTHING
Paul considered his former gains a loss compared with knowing Christ. His example invites you to examine your ambitions, achievements, and sources of confidence. Bring what you value under Jesus’ leadership and seek to know Him more deeply. (Philippians 3:7–8)
5. STEP UP BY PRESSING ON TOWARD GOD’S PURPOSE
Paul acknowledged that he had not reached his goal, yet continued pressing forward because Christ had taken hold of him. Keep growing, receiving correction, and serving in the opportunities before you. Christ’s grace gives you reason to persevere through setbacks and unfinished growth. (Philippians 3:12)
BE ENCOURAGED
You can put Jesus first through one faithful choice today. Identify an area where pride, comfort, possessions, or approval is directing your decisions, and act on what His Word teaches. Ask a trusted believer for encouragement as you follow through. If you have never trusted Christ for salvation, turn to the Savior who died and rose again to give you life.

Where can you turn when despair makes it difficult to see a future? Pastor Chris Teien explores the Philippian jailer’s story in Acts 16, where Paul’s urgent intervention interrupted a crisis and opened an opportunity to share the hope of Jesus.
This message encourages compassionate care for people experiencing suicidal thoughts and reminds listeners that their lives matter. Discover how faithful presence, practical help, and the gospel can offer hope. Seeking crisis support, qualified counseling, and medical care is consistent with trusting God.
IN THIS MESSAGE
1. SUICIDE IS NOT GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE
Your life has value, even when suffering makes that difficult to believe. Jesus offers life and calls us to trust Him through circumstances we cannot understand. If you are considering suicide, tell someone and seek immediate support. You deserve compassionate care in your distress. (Exodus 20:13; John 10:10; Proverbs 3:5–6; Hebrews 9:27)
2. WE ARE SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS
The jailer was carrying out his responsibilities while Paul and Silas endured unjust treatment. People around us may likewise be doing ordinary tasks while carrying pain we cannot see. Pay attention, listen without judgment, and make room for honest conversations about how someone is really doing. (Acts 16:16–24)
3. FAITH CAN SHINE WHILE BEING MISTREATED
Paul and Silas prayed and sang while imprisoned, and the other prisoners listened. Their example shows how faith can remain present amid suffering. Bring your pain honestly to God, and let your dependence on Him encourage others without feeling pressure to hide your struggles. (Acts 16:25–26)
4. GOD CAN USE SOMEONE TO INTERRUPT DESPAIR
When the jailer believed disaster had struck, Paul called out to stop him from harming himself. His response highlights the importance of taking a crisis seriously and offering immediate help. Be present, listen with compassion, and help someone connect with appropriate support. (Acts 16:27–28)
5. JESUS BRINGS SALVATION, HOPE, AND A NEW FUTURE
Paul and Silas directed the jailer to believe in the Lord Jesus, then shared God’s Word with his household. His story moved from despair toward faith, care for others, and joy. Christ’s saving grace gives lasting hope, while people experiencing a crisis also need practical support and ongoing care. (Acts 16:29–34)
BE ENCOURAGED
You do not have to face overwhelming thoughts alone. Tell a trusted person what you are experiencing and ask them to help you connect with support. If you are caring for someone else, listen patiently, take their words seriously, and help them seek care. Your life matters, and receiving help is a meaningful step toward hope.

Paul urges those raised with Christ to set their hearts and minds on things above. Remembering the eternal life we have in Jesus helps us recognize what has lasting value. Invest in people and faithful service, including when the results are not immediately visible. (Colossians 3:1–2; 1 John 5:11)
3. TRUST GOD TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR NEEDS
Jesus reminds His followers that their heavenly Father knows their need for food and clothing. Bring your concerns to Him and take responsible steps while trusting His care. Let His promises guide your decisions when worry threatens to consume your attention. (Matthew 6:31–33; Luke 12:31–32)
4. LIVE AS A CITIZEN OF HEAVEN
Believers belong to Christ and look forward to His return. That identity shapes how we live, work together, and persevere through difficulty. Depend on God’s strength, remain grounded in His truth, and keep serving faithfully in the responsibilities before you. (Philippians 3:20; Ephesians 6:10–18)

Let God’s revealed promises strengthen your trust while you seek understanding with a teachable heart. (Luke 1:31–34)
3. PEACE IS FOUND IN SURRENDER TO GOD’S PLAN
