This was the seventh day of the last week of Jesus’ life and he knew it. As we explore his last week, we can learn some things about the importance of his death and why it was necessary. The next thing we learn occurs surrounding Jesus’ time in the grave, post crucifixion. This was a day that we don’t hear any words from Jesus, but we do look back at his words regarding the coming of this day.
In this chapter, we find Matthew sharing a series of conversations between Jesus and the religious leaders of his day. The religious leaders in this passage were trying to get Jesus to do a miracle on demand. While they already witnessed several, they had rejected them, and wanted to see a sign that would make them believe. Jesus tells them the only sign that matters is the one that points back to Jonah.
Big Idea: 2 Lessons from the grave that we learn from the sign of Jonah. (Matthew 12:38-42)
