I will make known the LORD’s loving devotion and His praiseworthy acts, because of all that the LORD has done for us—the many good things for the house of Israel according to His great compassion and loving devotion. — Isaiah 63:7

The prophet resolves to recount the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, according to all He has bestowed on us. That's a healthy spiritual discipline — preaching the goodness of God to your own soul. He drew you up out of a horrible pit and set your feet on a rock. God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He's sealed you with the Holy Spirit of promise, the guarantee of your inheritance.

Now this is what the LORD says—He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine! — Isaiah 43:1

The command'fear not' is anchored in a past-tense reality: I have redeemed you. God isn't asking you to work up courage; He's telling you to look at what He's already done. He blots out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like a mist. You were redeemed not with corruptible things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. My Father, who gave you to Me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch you out of His hand.

They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. — Revelation 22:4

The greatest promise in all of Scripture may be this simple one: they shall see His face. Moses asked to see God's glory but was told no man could see His face and live. But through Christ, the only begotten Son who has declared Him, we have access. Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face. Beloved, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed — but when He appears, we will be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

For in Him you have been enriched in every way, in all speech and all knowledge, — 1 Corinthians 1:5

Paul says you've been enriched in everything by Christ. Not by your background, your intelligence, or your effort — by Him. He who didn't spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not also freely give us all things? In Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him. Apart from Him you can do nothing, but abiding in Him, the Word of Christ dwells in you richly.

The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness. — Psalm 41:3

When sickness comes and the bed becomes your whole world, the Lord doesn't abandon you — He strengthens you and makes your bed in your sickness. In all their affliction, He was afflicted. Paul pleaded for the thorn to be removed, but Christ said, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. The everlasting God doesn't grow faint, and He gives power to the weary. Underneath you are the everlasting arms.

sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. — 2 Corinthians 6:10

Paul lived in the tension that every believer knows — sorrowful yet always rejoicing, poor yet making many rich, having nothing yet possessing everything. You can be hard-pressed on every side without being crushed because your joy isn't rooted in circumstances. We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, and we even glory in tribulations. Though you haven't seen Him, you love Him, and you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. God is able to make all grace abound toward you.

Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. — Psalm 9:10

Knowing God's name — His character, His covenant faithfulness — is the ground of real trust. The Lord Our Righteousness, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace — that's whose name you've been given. The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe. Whom he had believed and was convinced He could keep what was committed to Him. The more you know His name, the more you trust Him.

Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. — Hebrews 7:25

Here's the comfort that holds you steady: Christ not only died for you, He lives for you, making intercession at the right hand of God. There's one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, and He ever lives to plead your cause. If you sin, you have an Advocate with the Father. Through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. You don't need anyone else to speak for you — the Son holds the floor in heaven on your behalf.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. — Hebrews 12:2

Jesus isn't just the starter of your faith — He's the finisher. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. It's God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose, so your perseverance isn't a product of your grit but of His grip. The Lord will perfect that which concerns you. You didn't get yourself in, and you can't keep yourself in — He does it all.

Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” — Genesis 32:26

Jacob wrestled all night and wouldn't let go until he got a blessing. That's the kind of holy stubbornness faith produces — holding onto God not because you're worthy, but because He's good. Let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me. The woman of Canaan wouldn't take no for an answer, and Jesus honored her faith. Like Jacob, you come limping and broken, but that's exactly when He gives you a new name.
