Matthew 27:1-25 Trials of Jesus before Pilate, Sanhedrin; Judas the betrayer

Jesus is Brought to Pilate  Now when morning had arrived, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.Mat 27:2  And they bound him and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.Mat 27:3  Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,Mat 27:4  saying: I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said: What is that to us? See to it yourself.Mat 27:5  And he threw the pieces of silver into the sanctuary and departed, and he went away and hanged himself.Mat 27:6  And the chief priests took the pieces of silver and said: It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.Mat 27:7  And they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.Mat 27:8  Therefore that field is called to this day, The field of blood.Mat 27:9  Then was fulfilled what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying: And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel.Mat 27:10  And they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me.Mat 27:11  Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him: Are you the King of the Jews? And Jesus said to him: You say it.Mat 27:12  And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he said nothing.Mat 27:13  Then Pilate said to him: Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?Mat 27:14  And he gave him no answer, not even one word, so much so that the governor was astonished.Mat 27:15  Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.Mat 27:16  And they had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas.Mat 27:17  Therefore, when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them: Who do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?Mat 27:18  For he knew that they had delivered him up out of envy.Mat 27:19  And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent a message to him, saying: Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. Jesus is CondemnedMat 27:20  Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.Mat 27:21  But the governor answered and said to them: Which of the two do you want me to release to you? And they said: Barabbas!Mat 27:22  Pilate said to them: What then shall I do to Jesus who is called Christ? They all said: Let him be crucified!Mat 27:23  And he said: Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying: Let him be crucified!Mat 27:24  So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying: I am innocent of this man's blood. See to it yourselves.Mat 27:25  And all the people answered and said: His blood is on us and on our children.

Depart from me, you that work iniquity.Mat 7:24  Everyone therefore that hears these words of mine and does them, shall be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock.Mat 7:25  And the rain descended and the floods came and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it did not collapse, for it was founded upon the rock.Mat 7:26  And everyone that hears these words of mine and does not obey them, shall be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.Mat 7:27  And the rain descended and the floods came and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it collapsed, and great was its collapse.Mat 7:28  And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words that the crowds were astonished at his teaching.Mat 7:29  For he taught them as one having authority and not as their scribes.

Matthew 21:23-46 Parable of the two sons, the wicked husbandmen, the stone the builders rejected And when he had entered into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said: By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you this authority?Mat 21:24  And Jesus answered and said to them: I also will ask you one question, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.Mat 21:25  The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven or from men? And they discussed it among themselves, saying: If we shall say, from heaven, he will say to us, why then did you not believe him?Mat 21:26  But if we shall say, from men, we fear the crowd, for all hold John as a prophet.Mat 21:27  And they answered Jesus and said: We do not know. He replied to them: Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.Jesus’ Parable of the Two SonsMat 21:28  But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said: Son, today go and work in the vineyard.Mat 21:29  And he answered and said: I will not; but afterward he repented and went.Mat 21:30  And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said: I go sir; but did not go.Mat 21:31  Which of the two did the will of his father? They replied: The first. Jesus said to them: Truly I say to you, that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.Mat 21:32  For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and afterwards when you saw it, you still did not repent and believe him.Mat 21:33  Jesus’ Parable of the Vineyard and the Husbandmen Hear another parable. There was a man that was master of a house, who planted a vineyard and set a hedge about it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen; and went into another country.Mat 21:34  And when the harvest season drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to get his fruit.Mat 21:35  And the husbandmen took his servants and beat one and killed another and stoned another.Mat 21:36  Again, he sent other servants more than the first, and they did the same to them.Mat 21:37  And last of all he sent his son to them, saying: They will respect my son.Mat 21:38  But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves: This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.Mat 21:39  And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.Mat 21:40  When therefore the owner of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those husbandmen?Mat 21:41  They said to him: He will miserably destroy those miserable men and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who shall pay him the fruits in their seasons.Mat 21:42  Jesus said to them: Did you never read in the scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.Mat 21:43  Therefore say I to you: The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it.Mat 21:44  And he that falls on this stone shall be broken to pieces, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.Mat 21:45  And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them.Mat 21:46  And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.
