In Peter's second letter he felt it necessary to give us many godly reminders. We need these reminders because, not only are we all prone to forgetfulness, but God has a very real purpose for our lives that we should not forget. Peter wants to stimulate us toward wholesome thinking. Wholesome thinking will become wholesome living as we await the end of the age.

Peter challenges us: "what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives" (2 Peter 3:11). We all live in God's gift of time. Time will soon be no more. Sometimes skeptics will use the false argument that, with religion, we are asked not to use our minds. Religion puts our minds on hold so we believe whatever someone has made up. If we carefully consider the response that Jesus gave concerning the greatest commandment, it should show us that using our minds is of the greatest importance. It is because of the blessing of the LORD that we can now boldly say that we are privileged. We are privy to gifts and resources unknown to those not so blessed. We do not have these privileges to make us proud or boastful. The more we grow to understand our place before God, the more it will lead us deeper into humility and service. Now, that is privilege that this world needs now more than anything else.
