Mere Christianity is a classic Christian book. It's a powerful tome that discusses: 1) Apologetics  2) Christian Living and 3) Some of the classic dilemmas people pose about life in general.

  • How Now Shall We Live? Chuck Carlson

Chuck Carlson is a real life example of the subject this book discusses. That is the Christian World View.

Essentially Chuck sees Christianity as addressing every area of life the Bible speaks on, and it speaks on everything of importance.

A worldview has to address 3 areas:
    1. Creation
    2. The Fall
    3. Redemption

This book thoroughly looks into all of these areas.

Along the way it looks at:
    1. Scientific evidence that supports the biblical worldview
    2. Historical evidence that supports Christ's historicity
    3.  How Christianity changes lives

  • Present Over Perfect Shauna Niequist

Ms. Niequist shares her hurt, pain, and disappointment with the busyness of her life, and the distractions, the self judging, the attempts to be perfect and the resulting pain it generated vs. focusing in on the things that really matter.

Learning to live life simply, appreciating God's creations, His love, nature.

Being there for the ones in your inner circle. Being present for them vs. having everything perfect say the clothes all sorted, folded and clean - but rather spending time with family, and doing The Thing you were made to do by the Father.

  • David Goggins Seal, Ranger and Tactical Air Controller

David is a believer once you research his life. Later in life he realized a lot of things he thought he had done on his own, that God was there with him all along.

He is the only person to have completed Seal, Ranger and Tactical Air controller training.
From his life we can learn a lot about suffering, a lot about the Christian life including the ability to overcome terrific odds and achieve great outcomes.

David went from 300 lbs and virtually illiterate to being a Navy Seal, to being one of the top Ultra Marathoners in the world. And he did it coming from a background that included horrible physical abuse, and at one point abject poverty.

  • Learning to Pray - James Martin

While the title might lead you to think this is an elementary book on prayer, I found that not to be the case. It's really more a survey of everything he's learned about prayer over 32 years as a priest, after studying the subject, doing it, going on retreats, pilgrimages, and talking to people about the subject.

He's a Jesuit priest so his perspective is a little different than the Protestant perspective.

The book is a quite comprehensive survey of different prayer techniques, and illustrations of those techniques.

It's a good book where you will likely learn some techniques for prayer you didn't know before.

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

What can we learn we can use in our walk with Christ from this man who devoted his life to seeking justice for those who weren't receiving it. He literally changed the face of the South and helped the United States to better live out it's ideals that all men are created equal for example.

He showed us how to walk in love without retaliating - how to "turn the other cheek" and how to serve!

Ultimately he gave his life for the cause eschewing wealth to help the "least of these."

  • Great Disciples of Christ - Samuel Morris - What God Can Do With the Spirit Filled!

Samuel Morris was an African Prince who was taken captive by an enemy tribe.  Near death God supernaturally intervened to free him and to lead him to a missionary site in Liberia. He had a focus on the Holy Spirit and Prayer.

When he met people he would almost always pray for them, and their lives would change permanently! No matter where he was, no matter how briefly he found a way to bring Jesus into the picture and leave them changed people!

If God could use someone like Sammy Morris with little education, who came from nowhere. If He can use David who only trained as a Shepherd but became the King that set the standard for all following Kings. If He can use them, He can use you!
