In this episode of the pod, I am so excited to have Kevin Holloway Harris. Kevin is a current colleague of mine who’s been working the last 2.5 years as a full-time sub.  He comes from a family of teachers and grew up in a realm of education himself, like working at summer camps. One of the main reasons that I’m so excited about this interview is that Kevin has the unique experience of working as a sub mostly through pandemic and “post-pandemic” (if we can call it that) times. 

We discuss operating in a world where physical interaction with the kiddos is so different (do we high five? Fist bump? How do we have a confidential convo 6ft apart?). We also talk about exploring new classroom tactics and “playing the opposite” - tailoring our approach to the kiddos in front of us and the importance of giving the respect you require and simply asking your kiddos “How would you like for me to teach you today?” .

He was an Assistant Principal and I was a classroom math teacher. It has been a while and it was great to hear his journey into education and how his spirit of service has guided him thus far.

Hey there everyone,

In this week's episode of the Chronicles of Mister , I get to chop it up with a former colleague who I worked with back in New Haven, CT, Dr. Thomas Mitchell. 

This was a great conversation with an individual who I felt "saw" me as an educator and gave me space to grow as a teacher. I am so grateful to have been able to reconnect with him and to give him his flowers and thanks as an individual who fostered a space for me and Mr. Craggett to be our fullest blerds and infuse joy and wonder into the kiddos we served.
