Through these prophecies, we see a common theme: pride leads to destruction. Even as God uses some of these nations to carry out His plans, their arrogance blinds them to their own coming judgment. Israel, called to be a light to the nations, has instead been influenced by them. Yet, through it all, God continues to offer refuge for the humble and hope for those who repent before time runs out.

While Assyria is rising as God’s tool of discipline, a promise of redemption shines through: a child will be born, a Son will be given. Isaiah prophesies the coming of Jesus—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace—who will reign with justice and righteousness. Though judgment is certain, God assures His people that a remnant will return. The line of David will not be cut off; a righteous branch is coming, and He will not disappoint.

Today’s reading plunges us into the heartbreaking decline of Judah under King Ahaz. Ahaz, king of Judah, rejects God's word and even sacrifices his own son in fire. When God offers to protect him—and even invites him to request a miraculous sign—Ahaz refuses, choosing to trust in Assyria instead. Isaiah responds with a deeper promise: a virgin will give birth to a child called Emmanuel. While Ahaz walks away from God, the promise of Christ quietly enters the story, offering hope in the midst of rebellion.

Then we meet Isaiah, who sees the Lord in all His glory and answers the divine call: “Here I am. Send me.” But God’s message is sobering—Isaiah will speak, but the people will not respond.
