Join us today as we conclude this week's study of Come Follow Me. We consider the great patience that Pahoran must have had to respond to Moroni's scathing epistle the way he did and we reflect on the principles of preparation and planning that we learn from his letter.
Elder David A Bednar: “One of the greatest indicators of our own spiritual maturity is revealed in how we respond to the weaknesses, the inexperience, and the potentially offensive actions of others. A thing, an event, or an expression may be offensive, but you and I can choose not to be offended—and to say with Pahoran, ‘it mattereth not.’”

Today we continue our study of Alma and we focus on Alma 60 as we consider Captain Moroni’s attitude in his epistle to Pahoran. We also reflect on how his comments have some merit but could have been tempered.
Book of Mormon Central: That Mormon preserved Moroni’s letter to Pahoran in his abridgment is remarkable. It shows a level of honesty on Mormon’s part, since he was willing to include information that portrayed Moroni, one of his heroes (Alma 48:17),3 in an unflattering light.

Today we continue our study of the account of the stripling warriors. We consider the great faith they demonstrated and we reflect on the lesson we learn about how they were preserved.
John Bytheway: “Having a testimony and having great faith in Christ does not guarantee that we won’t suffer. Abraham, Job, Abinadi, Nephi, Joseph Smith, and countless other righteous people… all suffered. Jesus Christ suffered beyond them all, and he never did anything wrong…. We’re all going to go through some tough times; that’s just the nature of life on earth. But our tough times cannot destroy our hope unless we let them. That is our option. We’re all going to suffer, but we don’t have to be miserable. Since all of the stripling warriors were wounded, we might expect that we’ll also get some bumps and bruises as we go through life’s battles”

Join us today as we delve into the wonderful example of the stripling warriors and their faithful outlook. We consider what we learn about how these young men were raised and we reflect on the role their fathers played.
Richard G Scott: “Under the direction of their prophet-leader, these young men took their fathers’ place in defense of their families and homes. The events surrounding this critical decision demonstrate how the Atonement of Jesus Christ brings personal strength to the lives of the children of God. Consider the tender feelings of those fathers. How must they have felt to know that the rebellious actions of their past prevented them from protecting their wives and children at that moment of need? Knowing personally of the atrocities their sons would now face, they must have privately wept. Fathers, not children, are supposed to protect their families! Their sorrows must have been intense”

Today we pause in the commentary of the army of Helaman and we learn some more lessons from Captain Moroni. We consider what we learn more from the context of these battles and we reflect on the negative impact of grudges.
Brant Gardner: “The interesting point is that Moroni needed a Lamanite. What could a Lamanite do that a non-Lamanite could not? For most readers, conditioned by years of assumptions, the assumption is that he is darker skinned while Nephites were ‘white.’ However, this reason is unlikely, given the actual working-out of the plan. First, Laman is not alone. Moroni has selected other men to go with him. Moroni had searched for a Lamanite and found one. His companions, were, therefore, not Lamanites. However, they approach with the one ‘true’ Lamanite.… according to the record, Laman does all of the talking, and the guards immediately accept his announcement that he is a Lamanite.”

Join us today as we begin our study of the introduction of Helaman and his stripling warriors. We consider what we learn from the dissensions along the Nephites and we reflect on the origin of these faithful young men.
Elder David A Bednar: “The stripling warriors in the Book of Mormon prayed earnestly that God would strengthen and deliver them out of the hands of their enemies. Interestingly, the answers to these prayers did not produce additional weapons or an increased number of troops. Instead, God granted these faithful warriors assurance that He would deliver them, peace to their souls, and great faith and hope for their deliverance in Him. Thus, the sons of Helaman did take courage, were fixed with a determination to conquer, and did go forth with all of their might against the Lamanites. Assurance, peace, faith, and hope initially might not seem like the blessings warriors in battle might want, but they were precisely the blessings these valiant young men needed to press forward and prevail physically and spiritually.”

Today we discuss some listener comments that we have received this week and we also review a recent story about a time capsule located in the Salt Lake Temple.
You can see the story here: https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/salt-lake-temple-capstone-opened-2020
President Russell M Nelson: “We did not expect to find much because we knew that the contents of the capstone had not been insulated from the weather during the 128 years that had elapsed," said President Russell M. Nelson. "But we wanted to be there anyway, just to be close and to pay tribute to the leaders and courageous pioneer craftsman who against all odds built this magnificent temple.”

Today we continue our study of Captain Moroni's preparation for the Lamanites. We consider the type of character Moroni was and we reflect on how his methods can be applied today.
Thomas R Valletta: “Mormon masterfully abridged the scriptural record about Moroni … demonstrating to his anticipated readers that this was a man most needed not only for his day, but also for our own…. Captain Moroni endures as a model of courage and righteousness to many Latter-day Saints….
“In Mormon’s view, Captain Moroni exemplified the model Nephite disciple of Christ….
“Implicit in Mormon's description of Moroni is the prophetic model of a man who understood the nature and value of covenant-making and keeping”

Join us today as we learn about Amalickiah's deceptive methods of gaining power. We consider the danger he portrays of the adversary and we reflect on the potential damage caused by those who lose their way.
President Russell M Nelson: “How divisive is the force of dissension! Small acts can lead to such great consequences. Regardless of position or situation, no one can safely assume immunity to contention’s terrible toll.
“Thomas B. Marsh, once one of the Twelve [Apostles], left the Church…. After an absence from the Church of nearly nineteen years, he came back. To a congregation of Saints, he then said:
“‘If there are any among this people who should ever apostatize and do as I have done, prepare your backs for a good whipping, if you are such as the Lord loves. But if you will take my advice, you will stand by the authorities’”
