Join us as we continue our study of the Come Follow Me materials for this week and look closer at the Saviour's ministering to the Nephites. We consider the importance of the gift of the Holy Ghost and we reflect on how this experience can relate to ours as we prepare for General Conference. 

Bishop Gerald Causse: “When we have the Spirit with us, our spiritual senses are sharpened and our memory is kindled so we cannot forget the miracles and signs we have witnessed. That may be why, knowing Jesus was about to leave them, His Nephite disciples prayed fervently ‘for that which they most desired; and they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto them.’ Although they had seen the Savior with their own eyes and had touched His wounds with their own hands, they knew that their testimonies might dwindle without being constantly renewed by the power of the Spirit of God. My brothers and sisters, never do anything to risk the loss of this precious and marvelous gift—the companionship of the Holy Ghost. Seek it through fervent prayer and righteous living.”

Those parents had been granted the extraordinary gift of a glimpse into eternity and of beholding the true identity and premortal stature of their children. Today we begin our study of 3 Nephi 17-19 with a look at how the Saviour ministered to these people. We consider how He considered their individual needs and we reflect on how He reached out to touch their lives one by one once again. 

President Dallin H Oaks: “When the Savior appeared to the righteous in the New World, He called for persons to come forward who were lame or blind or had other physical ailments. He extended the same invitation to those ‘that are afflicted in any manner.’ ‘Bring them hither,’ He said, ‘and I will heal them’ The Book of Mormon tells how the multitude brought forward ‘all them that were afflicted in any manner.’ This must have included persons with every kind of physical or emotional or mental affliction, and the scripture testifies that Jesus ‘did heal them every one.’ The Savior teaches that we will have tribulation in the world, but we should “be of good cheer” because He has ‘overcome the world.’ His Atonement reaches and is powerful enough not only to pay the price for sin but also to heal every mortal affliction.”

Today we conclude the Saviour's teachings in 3 Nephi 12-16 with a focus on what records were commanded to be kept after He left. We consider the prospect of other sheep He ministered to and we reflect on the command to keep a record. 

Parley P Pratt: They did as he commanded, and they liked the writings so well that they handed them down to each succeeding Prophet until Mormon, who was born three or four ages afterwards, and he could not hand those records down any further because of apostasy, and the blasphemy and wickedness of the people, and because of the wars and troubles that spread among the people; so he made a secret deposit of those writings, and put them in the earth, and he also wrote a book and called it the “Book of Mormon,”

Elder Jeffrey R Holland: [I]t is crucial to understand that the law of Moses was overlaid upon, and thereby included, many basic parts of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which had existed before it. It was never intended to be something apart or separated from, and certainly not something antagonistic to, the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was more elementary than the full gospel—thus its schoolmaster’s role in bringing people to the gospel—but its purpose was never to have been different from the higher law. Both were to bring people to Christ.”
