Here’s our halisode for 1950’s Best Original Song category. Picture Beavis & Butthead having to listen to these songs & imagine what they might say. It’s not far off from what you get here from MMO. We are NOT fond of most of these, which probably makes for better radio, and when we are fond a song, it’s a serious level of psychobabble and childhood attachment tying us to said fondness. Again, this should play for radio.
Nat King Cole’s “Mona Lisa” from Captain Carey U.S.A. took the award, beating out tunes from Singing Guns (Mule Train), The Toast of New Orleans (Be My Love), Wabash Avenue (Wilhelmina), and of course Cinderella (Bibippitty Bobajfjagjoaiigajrgojaj boo). We were / I was shocked to have as much fun with this category as we (I) did. There’s a lot to heckle. There’s even more to condemn with the righteous fury of our modern day moral superiority. We also make fun of their silly old fogie voices. It’s a heavily biased episode, and you’re welcome.
We break down the ridiculous scenes each song scored and comment upon the trailers and clips from the films. We also dish out some specs about how these songs fared on the Billboard music charts. Then we perfect Oscar perfection with our countdown segment re-ranking the songs 5 to 1.
If you enjoy these halfisodes, we’ll have more to come in the next week or so. In any case, do check out our massive catalog of episodes to find all your favorite MMO material.
