  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

This week, the doctor is in, as we review Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by OG Spider-Man director Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Xochitl Gomez. Multiverse of Madness continues the MCU’s Phase 4, which got started in earnest with DisneyPlus original series WandaVision, and also helps kick off our summer movie season.  To help us sort through all the multiversal shenanigans, we are happy to welcome back to the show Matt Farley of Marvel Guides. Together we tour the multiverse, consider the future of Phase 4, and give our hot takes on everything from Wanda to the Illuminati.

  • Boyhood (2014)

Welcome back to Cinema Joes! With Director Richard Linklater flashing back to the 1960's Apollo Space Program for his latest Netflix film Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood earlier this month, we decided to flashback to a film near and dear to our own coming of age story, 2014’s Boyhood, starring Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, & Ethan Hawke. To help us take a look at the film, which took over a decade to make (spanning almost our entire collective childhood), is special guest and resident Coming-of-Age Film Expert Jeremy Lesser, last heard on our 2017 review of Lady Bird.

During this discussion we reflect on the innovative and historic nature of the discussion; the film’s insights into growing up, family, and the human condition; Linklater's evolving approach to the narrative, both thematically and aesthetically; and the ways in which the film comments on and touches elements of our own childhood. We also consider how different some of the aspects of the film play now, when we are nearly a decade older in our own lives.

It’s finally here! Turning Red, the latest from Pixar Studios, was released recently, and we are so excited to welcome Live, Laugh, & Lovey’s titular host Lovey McPherson onto the pod to help us review it. Before we get into all the giant pandas, boy bands, teen crushes, and bffs Turning Red has to offer, we check in on some things we’ve been watching recently including The Lost City, Bel-Air, The Gilded Age, & Attica. Plus, one of our host's gives a special shout out to their new favorite YouTube channel Two Set Violin.

  • The Batman (2022)

Welcome back to CinemaJoes! • Five Year Anniversary Special

This week, we are going to continue looking back at the past just a BIT longer as we take some time out of the late winter film festivities to celebrate our FIFTH anniversary! That’s right, we’ve taken five trips around the sun since we reviewed 2017’s Beauty & The Beast and the world and we have changed quite a bit since then. We get a bit self indulgent and nostalgic, talking about our podcaster origins, what we’ve learned along the way, and what we are looking forward to in the future.

About Cinema Joes

From the publisher's feed

A podcast where an anime-obsessed expat with a passion for foreign cinema, an auteur-loving actor who’s also a dedicated completist, and a gay Marvel fanboy stranded in the suburbs come together across three time zones to discuss the week’s big release and how it connects to the significant topics in movie culture!
