  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
For this episode, we discuss Godzilla: King of the Monsters, monster movies in general, and our general fascination with disaster movies.  We also enjoy some full-bodied (monstrous, if you will) red wines to go along with our spirited conversation.

As always, if you enjoy our precious little podcast, please head over to Apple Podcasts and give us a good rating.  It really helps us out!

  • Mitch Scōggins (Graduation Movies)
When true inspiration hits, it can feel like harnessing the power of the sun.  Such was the case roughly six weeks ago, when your favorite trio of podcasters spontaneously created the character of Mitch Scōggins.  (It rhymes with SNOW-gins.)  Mitch is a bookish high school student with a knack for solving crimes in and around his high school.  Think of the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew-type mysteries.

For this episode, the boys and I drink some delicious wine and discuss our favorite movies about graduation and the end of school.

  • 28. Throne for a Loop
[su_dropcap]W[/su_dropcap]ell, the savage quest for the Iron Throne has come to a fairly underwhelming end.  We have a ruler for Meh-steros.  Now an important question faces us all:  What the hell do we do now?  I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Dido to kinda mellow out.
For this episode, we discuss what to binge in a post-Thrones world.  Also, we pick out a few wines to enjoy during your couch-bound marathon.  First, we’ve got the rosé from Gobelsburg, an Austrian wine with the classic grapes of Pinot Noir, Zwiegelt, and St. Laurent bundled into one lean, crisp, and completely refreshing bottle.  Next, we venture down to South Africa for Radley and Finch rosé.  Not only does it have a clear reference to Harper Lee’s masterwork, which was subsequently turned into a cinematic classic, it’s also part of their summer series.  It’s just part of our wine-drinking existence:  The weather warms up, and the wines cool down.  The Radley and Finch is brawnier, with more bottom-heavy fruit flavors.  If you’re looking for some oomph on a budget, this is your dude.
(A note:  Starting next week, Cinemavino will return its regular Sunday nights.)

  • 27. Game of Thrones Recap: The Sound of Sirens
    Spoilers abound!!! Proceed with caution!!!
[su_dropcap size=”5″]W[/su_dropcap]hen spring blooms in Oklahoma, it often comes in the form of demolishing tornadoes.  These swirling fingers of destruction happen with such regularity that most lifelong residents greet them with a casual fascination.  Midway through our latest podcast, the city sirens wailed that Tulsa was under a tornado warning.  What did we do once we heard this apocalyptic sound?  We kept right on podcasting, of course!  I know it sounds weird, but you live here long enough, you just get used to ’em.
On to business:  For this episode, we break down our mixed emotions about the Game of Thrones finale, “The Iron Throne.”  We also down some delicious red wine, all while tornado sirens howl in the distance.
We’re featuring two wines for this chat.  The Hess Select Cab features a logo that’s very similar to a Lannister lion.  Cersei and Jaime have truly gone bye-bye, so this bold, oaky, smoky red seemed like a fitting choice.   Also, the Pinot Noir from Innocent Bystander is an excellent, satin-smooth burst of cherries and berries.  The episode opens with Tyrion glumly bisecting a street of stacked, smoldering bodies, and much of this narrative centers on the anger of Dany’s slaughtering of innocents.
We hope you enjoy tonight’s Cinemavino, and stay tuned for much more to come!  Also, be sure and check out Taylor Owens’ new Instagram page @taydoesvino, for plenty of wine and movie-related content!

  • 26. Game of Thrones Recap: Hells Bells
    SPOILERS LIE AHEAD!
[su_dropcap size=”5″]T[/su_dropcap]he cast of Game of Thrones assured us that this episode was gonna be crazy, and damned if they weren’t right.  “The Bells” greeted us with lots of death, destruction, and departure from long-established characters arcs.  This might be the most polarizing installment of this show’s most polarizing season.  A lot of this would’ve benefitted from less Usain Bolt from the writers and more…damn, I wish I could think of one marathon runner.  Anyway, I don’t mind the notion of Dany going Hollywood Hogan on us.  It’s kinda been baked into her storyline the whole time.  We just got there in a hurry.  And I’m gonna stick to guns that my bro Varys is too clever to be bested or broasted, and Tyrion is too savvy to let it come to that.  (Also, I think that kitchen girl was planning to poison Dany on behalf of Varys.  I suspect she still might.  You heard it here first.)
So, we drink two delicious reds for this episode:  The first is Lord Sandwich Cabernet, from Smith Story Wines. It’s a bold, balanced, lightly earthy Cab with jammy fruit all the way through.  We followed that up Bear Flag Zinfandel, a fun, fruity (but not jammy) wine that could liven up some Italian food or some you-time on the ol’ back porch.  Because the Mormont family has been wiped out this season, and their sigil is a bear…*sniff*…it just seemed appropriate.
Join us as we discuss “The Bells,” the fifth episode of Game of Thrones’ eighth season.  We also go over our predictions for the series finale.
