  • Game of Thrones (Season 8, Episode 5)
Join us as we discuss “The Bells,” the fifth episode of Game of Thrones’ eighth season.  We also go over our predictions for the series finale.

We drink two delicious reds for this episode:  The first is Lord Sandwich Cabernet, from Smith Story Wines. It’s a bold, balanced, lightly earthy Cab with jammy fruit all the way through.  We followed that up Bear Flag Zinfandel, a fun, fruity (but not jammy) wine that could liven up some Italian food or some you-time on the ol’ back porch.

  • 25. Game of Thrones Recap: Just Enough Bronn in Your Diet
SPOILERS LIE AHEAD.  PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
With the wholesale slaughter of the Battle of Winterfell barely in our rearview mirror, Game of Thrones plunges right back into what it does best:  Lies, whispers, betrayal, and cold-blooded murder.  “The Last of the Starks” is vintage Thrones, with most of the main characters jockeying for position in a post-White Walker world.  Long-established allies begin to doubt each other, love begins to wilt on the vine, and things really start going south the minute our heroes turn their attention…well, south.  Almost every relationship now has an 10 ton elephant living the same room, whether it’s Jon and Dany, Varys and Tyrion, Sansa and Dany, Sansa and Jon, Brienne and Jaime, or Bronn, Tyrion, and Jaime.  The one constant throughout this whole episode is a lot of awkwardness.
For this episode, we breakdown the ample plot in the fourth episode of the eighth season of Game of Thrones, and discuss how we think the show will conclude its historic run.  We also drink some red wine that has relevance to events in the story.  Sans Liege makes some damn fine vino, and their well-rounded Groundwork Syrah is no exception.  This was a table-setting episode, so Groundwork seemed like a good fit.  And because the first 20 minutes of this installment show us a strange, subdued celebration at Winterfell, the Cabernet from Revelry Winery felt perfect for the occasion.  These are both great wines at a decent price, so tell your local wine store to bring them in, or else your going slap them directly in the face with a leather glove.
One correction:  I blurt out that Revelry is from California, it’s actually from Washington’s beautiful Columbia Valley.  That’s my bad, y’all.
Anyway, kick back and enjoy this episode of Cinemavino.

  • 24. Game of Thrones Recap: Not Today
Fair warning:  You’ve entered the realm of spoilers.  Proceed with caution.
The biggest Game of Thrones battle has officially come and gone, and the reactions to it have been unsurprisingly polarized.  With all the adoration obsession this show has provoked, there was absolutely no way the writers could please everyone and keep the story unpredictable.  My reaction:  This was one of the best installments of the entire series.  The seeds for Arya’s heroism were planted long ago, and when they bloom in this episode, it’s absolutely brilliant.

For this third episode in our Game of Thrones series, we break down “The Long Night,” and talk about where the show could go to wrap up its storylines.  We also enjoy some dessert wine, The Parting Glass, a Riesling from Owen Roe Winery.  It’s a sweet, honey-rich white wine that could pair with a piece of cake, or just all by its lonesome.  With all the characters who departed with this episode, the name of this particular bottle seemed fitting.

  • 23. Endgame Postgame
Note:  This podcast is loaded with spoilers.  Proceed with caution.
We watched Avengers: Endgame on opening night, and we reacted with different levels of enthusiasm.  For this episode, we break down the film, what we liked, what we didn’t like, and what future movies could look like.  In between segments, a big group of friends rolled in from a Kesha concert, so the second half of this installment finds us a little extra boozy.
This week, we enjoy a little beer from Santa Fe Brewing, which features some of the finest ales and lagers to come out of New Mexico.  You can find out all about them right here.  Their beers are color-coded, and my wife Jo was sweet enough to track down colors that match up with Thanos’ gauntlet.  It also doesn’t hurt that the Land of Enchantment is where Thor’s hammer was discovered in Iron Man 2.

Kick back, crack open a brew if that’s your kinda thing, and enjoy some drunken discussion of Avengers: Endgame.
