  • 3152: Lockdown morning in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, India lockdown sound recorded by Varun Venugopal.
"I am a sound recordist working in film and television from Hyderabad.
"When the lockdown was announced everybody took it up to stay at home for a change, and result of the following day was unbelievable.
"When i woke up at around 7AM it was as if something had gone wrong, I couldn't hear a single vehicle that is usually blaring. I ran out to see if what I was hearing was legit.
"I stepped out onto my terrace to see it was bliss to be surrounded in clean and quiet air. There was a vendor who was selling vegetables in the morning."

  • 3151: Parma on lockdown
Parma, Italy lockdown sound recorded by Marilena Karagkiozi.
"This soundscape is a composition of acoustic stories recorded at the exact same spot, my apartment window. I live in the center of the city of Parma in Italy and the project covers the past two months of the lockdown.
"I am giving you a short description of the sounds you are hearing but not in the order you are hearing them.

"A woman wearing a rose-pink fluffy jacket passing down the street and singing. Children drawing chalk paint dinosaurs on the alley. Rain in the night and someone playing the piano. A military jeep, patrols. A bicycle. Singing birds all over. Someone throwing the garbage away and someone whispering a swear word. Five dogs with five bell collars.  Verdi's Rigoletto from the street’s megaphones.
"You are free to create your own narrative."

  • 3150: Birdless time near Bordeaux
Floirac, France lockdown sound recorded by Stephane Bardex.
"I’m living in Bordeaux's outskirt (France). It’s been now around 6 weeks I’m staying at home with my family. As we do have a balcony and plenty of sunny days (unlike the picture!), life is rather easy. We adapted and tried to find the good balance to live together all day long. « Cooking is the teacher, Drinking good wine is the preacher », you know. Homeworking since the beginning of containment, I consider myself damn lucky.
"Did a couple of soundtakes on the same day. On the previous one you could hear birds singing (quite loud!) and some funk music played mellow in the neighborhood. It was a good ambience. Only a couple of minutes later for this soundtake, the birds must have gone to sleep and music  stopped; the result is much more… quiet."

Los Angeles lockdown sound recorded by DCPete.

  • 3147: Almost nothing | Almost everything
Milan lockdown sound recorded by Sergio Armaroli.
"Sunday morning, April 19, 2020, Milan: at the center of the pandemic. I recorded and edited in a sound meta-landscape from two listening points, 10 am, approximately. Listening to my cats. The passage of tram 1, symbol of the city, and some occasional cars. I leave the imprint of the voice with the wind gently hitting the microphone.
"Reversing the time: internal / external. I pick up the sound of the city from my terrace on the street and inside the Eco of the courtyard. In the distance voices and the ignition of the gas as a signal.Dialectically from two points towards a change of perspective. Towards a listening society. To Luc Ferrari, in memory."

  • 3145: Ambulance siren in Higienópolis
Sao Paulo lockdown sound recorded by Isadora Martins.
"Here in Brazil most of the states are experiencing social isolation. The marjority of the population is following the health recommendations, but there are also the stubborn ones who don't care about hygienic measures. I live nearby some hospitals and I have the perception that the ambulance sirens noise has increased here."

  • 3144: Una mattina...
Rome lockdown sound recorded by Chiara Stefani.
"Since this quarantine has started, every day there's such a lovely habit here. We meet with neighbours, on the balconies, to chat, listen or sing songs together.
"During this period we have also celebrated a birthday and a wedding anniversary .
"Today we discovered that one of our neighbours is a talented flute player, 'cause she played for us a special, stunning song, "Bella ciao", to  remind us how liberty is essential, and we can't take it for granted. Buon 25 aprile."
