  • 3118: NHS applause from Reigate Hill
Reigate, UK lockdown sound recorded by Mark Cattell.
"Clap for Our Carers, every Thursday at 8pm since the UK Coronavirus lockdown started, has become an outlet of gratitude and support for the nation towards NHS, social care and other essential key workers that continue to selflessly help those debilitated by the virus, others in need of support as they shelter at home, or just keep the infrastructure of the country running.
"It is also used to promote donations to NHS Charities Together - nhscharitiestogether.co.uk in order to help support a desperately underfunded health service that is struggling for essential supplies during the pandemic.
"I hope that this weekly show of gratitude and community solidarity for the workers that provide our essential services will be remembered long after this crisis by a public that so recently re-elected a government whose policies are to freeze the pay rises of essential public workers below inflation rates, promote a hostile environment for immigrant workers  who fill so many roles in the NHS other essential services, and of austerity measures that mean that public services like the NHS are so underfunded that they lack basic equipment to treat and protect their workers from this virus."

  • 3113: A walk in the Swiss woods
Zurich lockdown sound recorded by Olga Stefan.
"While hiking on a sunny Sunday afternoon, I stopped suddenly and surrendered to the cacophony of sounds engulfing me: birds, wind, insects, and the distant traces of humanity. I was in a world very far away from the madding crowd, a world away from the present, but of the past and future."

  • 3108: Stay at home (Italy)
Cavriglia, Italy lockdown sound recorded by Silvia Frosinini.
    Ecco tutto scorre... speriamo bene"

  • 3116: Idiot balcony DJ, Madrid
Madrid lockdown sound recorded by Ben Roberts.
"Every night at 19:55 a neighbour across the park becomes a self-appointed master of ceremonies, getting on the mic to address the residents and play his awful commercial pop music!
"This field recording is a document of how a time slot initially dedicated to gestures of support for medics has been 'sonically co-opted'. Recorded on Tandberg Series 12 open reel tape machine, Philips mikes. This is an edited down piece."

  • 3110: Birdsong in Pocket Park
Stroud, UK lockdown sound recorded by Ann-Margreth Bohl.
"My home is on the outside of a small town in the West of England. This recording was taken one morning a few days ago when I walked early to one bakery that is still open. Normally at this time it is quite busy on the nearby main road but not at the moment.
"I luckily had my field recorder with me to take hold of the birdsong that morning.
"Stroud is a friendly small town, which has an independent and creative spirit. Many of us make sure our the vulnerable neighbours have what they need during these weeks of lockdown. I am developing a project on field recordings during these challenging times and would like to hear from you if you are interested to take part."
