  • 3010: An Afternoon in Santa Venera Malta during Corona lockdown

  • 3005: Wellington winds
New Zealand lockdown sound recorded by John Heighes.
"Wellington is officially the windiest city on the planet but usually the city noise drowns out the sound of the wind. Now, from the window of my inner city apartment, wind and bird calls are the predominant sounds, with usually shy native birds like fantails very quickly appearing in the newly deserted heart of the city.
"Largely thanks to the New Zealand government's swift and extreme response the sound of sirens is completely absent and the quiet, at first eerie, is strangely comforting, especially when reading of the situations unfolding in some cities worldwide. Here in New Zealand it is now official - 'Be Kind' - and that is the message to get us all through this. Stay well."

  • 3004: A Saturday morning in San Miguel Chapultepec
Mexico lockdown sound recorded by Jesus Pacheco Vela.
"I wanted to do a brief recording from my window as a sonic snapshot of these days. I'm enjoying a lot that the absence of cars and crazy horns is allowing days with more harmonic and natural sounds. We can even hear the sound of the wind! I did the recording putting my cellphone among my plants, so I could have their listening perspective on a regular quarantine morning."

  • 3003: Cigarettes and lockdown
Trento, Italy lockdown sound recorded by Emanuele Lapiana.
"Working home, new rituals take place. Around 10 am I have the first cigarette on my balcony. The whole thing lasts about 10-12 mins that I spend:
    -rolling the cigarette
-greetings and formalities with neighbours I usually don't talk to
    -listening to the birds
    -smoking
-shaking the cigarette ash in the tray
    -tiptapping my phone
    -checking my smartphone notification
-watching the dogs in the dog area
    -enjoying the new ritual
-asking myself how long will this last
-wondering how quick and unpredictable are changes
    Cheers and good luck!"

  • 3002: Lockdown in Petriolo, Italy

"Since the coronavirus lockdown all is gone quieter than usual.
This is a late morning stereo recording in which you can hear dogs, Streptopelia decaocto (Eurasian collared dove), Corvus monedula (western jackdaw), Serinus serinus (European serin), and other birds.
"At about 9’40” you can also ear an old squeaking Ford Ka driven by an old man that stop at the fountain, then he begins filling his water tank for home, some people crossing by and talking about the lockdown hardness and complaining about fighting at home with husbands (in an Italian dialect)."

The rain of a Summer to come
    and the Spring rain
