  • 3002: You can hear the mosquitoes
Sydney lockdown sound recorded by Cameron Webb.
"Sydney is close to total lockdown with all but essential workers encouraged to stay at home. This recording was made along a path through some urban wetlands. Usually the sound of cars, leaf blowers, and aircraft fill the air. Today it was so quiet you hear the mosquitoes."

  • 2993: Jeremyah & Noah
Calella lockdown sounds recorded by Noah Frahms.
"We are here in Catalunya Calella, "Spanistan". The oppressive fascist politics try to hold us under the authority controlled and in prison without any care about us. If we don't try to risk our freedom for food and water every day, we will be in a worse situation because we are homeless and migrants from all over the world including 2 families from South America living in a occupied hotel that is falling into parts without running water.
"We would love to make more music but as you can see we spend a lot of the time to make sure to be ok today."

  • 2995: Philadelphia city sounds
Philadelphia, USA lockdown sound by Kelsey Donato.
"In the past three weeks in the city of Philadelphia, PA I have seen essential businesses do everything they can to make shopping experiences safe for workers and patrons.
"I have seen restaurants and bars working hard long hours to deliver or provide take out meals. I have seen communities take initiative and start their own help systems to make sure everyone is getting what they need.
"I have seen people's fear manifested as anger. I have seen people who are careful, I have seen people who are not.
"I have seen rainbows around the city that symbolize hope. I have read signs filled with love and encouragement. I have been in more frequent contact with friends throughout the city.
"I have felt more strongly about supporting local businesses. And I have fallen more in love with the city that I live in."

  • 2994: Suspended
Padova lockdown sound by Daniele Bogon.
"My country is in quarantine, my city is a red area of Italy. After more than a month, it is still strange to hear the news about the COVID-19, it is something that you do not get used to.
"The sound of this track is taken from the street in front of my apartment; it is a busy street usually at any time of day or night.
"The track is a photograph, a snapshot of a typical day in quarantine: there are few cars, no voices in the street and ambulances coming and going from the hospital.
"Maybe one day the echo of those sirens will remain confined to a corner of memory, far from everything we live here and now, but in this suspended time we all have the opportunity to change the perspective and the point of view on our lives."

Sulmona, Italy lockdown sound recorded by Carlotta Cirilli.
"Italy is strongly tested by this emergency. We are trying to face it best with all our resources. We are kind people who love their country.
"This quarantine is very difficult because it often separates us from our loved ones.
"Thank you because this project has helped me to listen and rediscover what is around me and maybe I took it for granted and to give me calm again.
"This is the view and sounds of my garden. I spend my days between study and reading. But from today I will also pay much more attention to sounds of this lockdown.
"Easter is a very important moment and spending it like this will be really strange. I remember the sounds of what was life before now. But as we say here in Abruzzo, we are "strong and kind". this too will pass. Thanks."

  • 2989: Birds singing at dusk in Lisbon
Lisbon lockdown recording by David Afonso.
"With most of the citizens staying at home, the noise of traffic is much lower and the sounds of nature, mostly birds, can be heard more distinctly all day long. This sample was recorded at dusk.
This place was a former military quarter. The old building now belongs to the parish council. Behind me stand the abandoned military barracks and a makeshift parking lot.
Why am I here and not at home? That's because we are supporting an elderly family member who lives in this neighbourhood. "
