  • 2591: Bigly Tremendous Words
DC soundwalk reimagined by Leon Muraglia.
"I went through transcripts of Trump speeches, found recordings of them online and isolated the words ‘back’, ‘cost’ and ‘funds’.  It’s the well-known story of the deranged shepherd with small hands, religiously repeating the same message until the intellectually-challenged sheep join in en masse, without fully understanding what they are doing. They become very loud for a while, drowning out the beautiful natural sounds of the park, but then fade away."

  • 2590: Soundwalk in Washington, D.C.
Sound recorded on walk between Macomb Street NW and the end of Woodley Place NW (walking over the Klingle Valley Bridge). Recorded by Andrew Coombes.

  • 2593: ///centurion.outer.warned
Little Tribune Bay reimagined by Sherman and Field.
"The approach taken to construct this piece took the theme of location. Accompanying the original field recording 'underwater at Little Tribune Bay with boat noise' are a range of captured sounds from the location of our own home. An improvised guitar piece was placed underneath, with spoken word by local artist Gary Abkin."

  • 2588: Three Words (///method.bitters.tumble)
Hallgrimmskirkja reimagined by Nick St. George.
"Picking up the C&M gauntlet once again, this project provided a somewhat different challenge - not only to incorporate the usual field recording, but also the location of that recording's 'What 3 Words' address. A church in Reykjavik gave me the not-terribly-promising combination of ///method.bitters.tumble.

So - 'Method' immediately said Method Acting to me. And a trawl of librivox.org gave me PD versions of the folksong 'The Bitter Withy' ('Bitter' repeated to give the plural) and a 19th Century New York Times story about a certain "Mr. Tumblety".... The field recording was surprisingly interesting when played backwards, add to that some musical bits and pieces, plus Psalm 20 read in Icelandic (appropriate to the location - thank you, Freesound) and a soupçon of Method (?) acting (thanks again, Freesound) - and there you have it.

Could the address of Cities & Memory HQ possibly be "remixing.the.world"?"

  • 2587: Takis Takes Practice
Takis exhibition reimagined by Paul Collins.
"Two of the three words in the map designation, ///lined.rise.exit, were especially useful in my compositional process. I continually held a mental image of those lines of force in the magnetic fields that power and generate so much of Takis' work. The notion of magnetism also came into play in my recording process, where I chopped and randomly spliced together short segments of the numerous takes of the synthesizer line, much as magnetic tape would be cut and spliced in an aleatory way, back in the day. The notion of "Exit," is realized here in the final note, as a way of bring my piece "home," to the tonic (D) in which this piece was composed."

  • 2586: Seal Seal
Grey seals reimagined by Denisa Uherova.
"I was thinking about the word seal as a verb and what kind of thoughts seal your mind at night. The mind can bite everything that is considered holy. Thoughts just eat everything, even the seals in the sea."
