  • 2579: Constant aggression
Grand Central station reimagined by Stephanie Merchak.
"I used the 3 words as a set of direct instructions when composing this piece.
"Edits", lead me to edit the recording and cut out the parts where you can hear PA calls ("Calls" being the second of the 3 words). As for "Empty", I used it as a cue for silence.
The whole piece is constructed using material from the original recording only, from the background ambience, to the sound effects, to the beats.
No additional sounds or instruments were used.
I wanted to express the constant aggression we are subjected to in our daily life in big cities, hence the title."

  • 2577: Siipi Sulka Lintu
Finnish birdsong reimagined by Scott Wilson.
"The three words associated with the location of the recording are: ///blocks.dripping.penny. 'Blocks' suggested that the composition be made of pieces and fragments, excerpts from the original recording that could be treated and reordered as an aural construction. 'Penny' suggested a focus on the smallest denomination, the granular noises and lowest frequencies. 'Dripping' bought to mind the regular pulsing and percussive nature of raindrops and suggested that repetition be utilised as a compositional tool."

  • 2578: Times Square (Andy Lyon reimagining)
Times Square reimagined by Andy Lyon.
"The three words are ///retain.vibes.proven. I used these to create a set of 'found instructions' as follows -
Retain as much of the original recording as possible and retain its essence; Use proven techniques to enhance and create different vibes.
I used RapidComposer to produce chord progressions and melodies and used Spitfire Audio libraries to play these. I processed the recording with the grain micro loop sampler in Hollyhock 3 DAW and a number of effects (Frostbite, MangledVerb, SpecOps, H949 Dual Harmoniser). I also processed the recording in Palindrome with Blackhole and H3000 Band Delays to create 2 background layers.
I've layered all of these these through the song using a variety of effects (SP2016 Reverb, Blackhole, H3000 Band Delays, H3000 Factory, Reels).
The finished recording embraces the essence of the original recording whilst considering how the feel of a location can change both with time and as you walk through it. "

  • 2576: Essaouira Gardens (In Three Parts)
Esaouira busker reimagined by Andy Billington.
"The 3 words that defined the location (///spaceship.countries.stiff) were drawn into the "Sketch" setting on the Teenage Engineering OP1. Next samples were cut from the original recording and re arranged. Finally digital persian santoor was improvised over the top and hand drum added for the middle section of the track.
Three additional "versions" were then recorded and mixed together to realise the final recording.
Somewhere in the mix Google Translate ghost voices anchor the re-imagined recording re stating the 3 words (deep in the mix) and our busker carries on with his lament."

  • 2578: The Honey Bee Tribute
Singapore basketball match reimagined by Jason Lee.
"///doing.guitar.sticky - 'The Honey Bee'. There's a house nearby with old unused instruments, some on the ground or shelf, some on the walls. I used these as found, stuck as they were left, as they are 'tuned'. In the garden a swarm of honey bees settle in."

  • 2579: Doo Wop Ride
New Jersey boardwalk reimagined by Anthony Miller.
"On investigating the Boardwalk I came across the Doo-Wop Preservation League which was set up to preserve the architecture of the Wildwood Boardwalk area. I decided to use the words “fading” and “basis” to create an imaginary ride with the sounds of the boardwalk fading in and out and the classic doo-wop chord progression as the basis of the music. All sounds were created from the original recording apart from the chords. Put together on iOS  using Borderlands Granular app and Thor synth."
