Cities and Memory - remixing the world episodes

  • Adrift in Djupivogur
Djupivogur art installation, reimagined by Flora Henderson.
"Adrift in Djúpivogur – for Djúpivogur Oil Drum Sound Art Installation, shakuhachi, cello and piano.
Music is “humanly organised sound” (John Blacking 1995:56) – and that includes textures, from the rough to the smooth, – as well as pitches, rhythm, and the Japanese musical aesthetic of ‘ma’ (the space-between-the-sounds). For this work, the sounds of the sound art installation presented a whole textural sonic event, which I wanted to maintain but through the introduction of additional musical textures and pitches to create changing tensions, resolutions and spaces.
I composed this using Logic 9 on a Mac. All the instruments were performed and recorded by me."

  • Circular Rift (Thames waves)
Thames wave sounds reimagined by Jan Gilhooley.
The location of the recording is on the River Thames, recorded on Saturday May 24th 2014 on the South Bank, between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge.
The track, Circular Rift, also uses a lot of London Underground Noises recorded whilst I was travelling around London.

  • Spiralling Continuum (Phonm Penh)
Birds nestled on mango trees in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Recorded and re-imagined by Warren Daly as an ambient composition entitled Spiralling Continuum.
"Phnom Penh is the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia. A city in constant flux, concrete and glass are rapidly consuming the city block by block. Pockets of wildlife exist throughout the city if you explore for long enough."
