  • The Next Station. Old Street
    Reimagined by TheFatControlleR
"Taking some of the 'mechanical' sounds from the recording, sampled, tweaked, stretched, repeated, phased, gated, filtered and panned to form a rhythmic atmospheric backdrop with other elements being placed as highlights and counterpoints.
On top of which were placed whole segments of the underground life lyric with an electronic music accompaniment, reflecting the clockwork, repetitive, cyclic nature of a living, pulsing mass transit system."

  • The Museum of Soho (Oxford Circus)
Oxford Circus reimagined by Tony Shrimplin.
"Oxford Circus tube station is the busiest in England. My inspiration came from this fact. I thought it would be interesting to project it into an alternative future London where only a few people now survive but the public service announcements still continue.
The soundscape is set in a post Crossrail, post apocalyptic West End.
Oxford Circus is now overgrown with vegetation but the subterranean tunnels are still used and the last remaining tube ferries the dispossessed to Epping!"

  • La Raverie (Moorgate)
Moorgate reimagined by Martin A. Smith.
"This piece is about the transportative power of music and the ability of sound to evoke memories.
Daydreaming on the tube the evocative sound of the accordion provokes memories of Provence in deepest Summer.
The train recordings are of the Northern Line and the cigales and church bells were recorded in the forests above St. Remy de Provence and Tarascon in the South of France."

  • State of Underground (Camden Town)
Camden Town reimagined by Fernando Laub.
"A few days before I produce this piece I had the opportunity to be in London traveling around the underground network, inspiring myself with its particular atmosphere. The aim of this work is to transmit that undefinable mood driven by a mixture of multiple perceptions."

  • Anaesthetic for stressed commuters (Euston Square)
Euston Square reimagined by Leon Muraglia.
"It's a half-remembered memory of late-night travel through busy London. Sounds of trains, voices, buildings mingling with music in my headphones."

  • Order out of Oxford Circus chaos
Oxford Circus reimagined by Andy Rae from Ithaca Audio.
"This remix was about doing the opposite. We tried to make order out of chaos - to add space to something very crowded. "

  • Times and Pulses in Stratford
Stratford Station reimagined by Isabel Nogueira.
"The original field recording was used in three different tracks, combining times and pulses, and was time stretched all over the song. All these procedures were combined with three experiments with a kaosscilator, wondering what would happen if my imagination could combine the field recording and my internal sounds."

Bank station reimagined by Antonia Bustamente.
"To make this audio I cut some sentences and sounds of the original recording, repeated them many times and processed them."

  • Sleepy Commute (Waterloo)
Waterloo and City line reimagined by Trixie Delight.
" The field recording of the Waterloo City train journey reminded me of the peculiar state of half sleep commuters often find themselves in. They are in a stuffy, slightly too warm train that is rocking and swaying. They are worn from work, have their eyes closed, slipping in and out of a light sleep - but are subconsciously listening to the familiar noises of the tracks, until the sound of the train pulling into the station brings them back to life just in time to alight. I tried to describe this dreamlike condition with sound. The little clicks and glitches are the commuters' sleepy thoughts, while the noise of the train is both present as a back ground drone and a wavelike stab into the subconscious, updating on the current location and gently rocking back and forth in echo.
I am an experimental musician and mostly work with field recordings. I like to evoke moods with manipulated sounds. My tools are simple: I use audacity to cut, reverse, glitch, pitch and stretch sounds. I then arrange the created snippets in an order that tells a story. All the sounds used in “Sleepy Commute” are derived from the original field recording of a 5 minute train journey. Mixed and mastered by Dental Drill (TCFSR.net) at The Patisserie"
