Sometimes we can feel frustrated by the seeming inactivity of God in our lives. After Moses goes to confront Pharaoh instead of deliverance he faces a complete rejection. God shows us how in midst of our failures God is with us, he hears our frustrations and is planning an ultimate deliverance.

When God called Moses to be a great Deliverer he was calling one of the most unexpected and unqualified people. The story of God is how God takes broken people and calls them to be used to do great things for his Kingdom.

Moses’ early life shows us how God providentially cares for his people. Throughout all the ups and downs of Moses’ life God faithfully and powerfully protected Moses. But his early life also revealed Moses' enormous flaws and his uncontrolled anger. Both Moses’ virtues and flaws point us to the coming flawless liberator, Jesus. Jesus, the better Moses, shows us God’s great plan for our lives.

In the opening chapter of Exodus we learn about a grim world of the fear of strangers, the exploitation of workers and physical and economic slavery. But in midst of that darkness and cynicism we see a powerful picture of faith. In Exodus we learn about God’s plan to bring liberation and wholeness to a fractured world.

Often in life we get stuck worrying about the future and wondering about how we will succeed. God’s promises in Jeremiah reminds us that God desires us to stay focused on the present, to seek to peace of the city and to trust him for everything else. Ultimately God’s plans for us is always greater than the plans we have for ourselves.

Many people see the Christian life as a dry discipline of serving God. But Revelation tells us the danger of forgetting our “first love.” God’s call for his church is to live out of a passionate love for God in everything we do. We’re motivated to love God when we see God’s passionate love for us poured out for us in Jesus.

One essential life skill is the art of making and maintaining spiritual friendships. In our transient culture we need to continuously develop new relationships that are based on truth and unconditional love. The Proverbs give us wisdom in rejecting fake and superficial friendships in favor of deep and lasting relationships that reflect the love of our true friend Jesus.
