Our culture puts great pressure on women to be attractive, independent, on top of their careers while being tremendous mothers. Peter, in his letter to the early church, explains that God’s calling on women is far different and also far more glorious. The gospel releases us from unrealistic expectations and frees us to live free as heirs of God.

We live in a time in a time of great political division in our country. How are Christians to relate to the government? Are we called to simply submit and support our government or are we called at times engage the government in a place of resistance? How should Christians live when their ultimate King and Kingdom have yet to be revealed in fullness? Peter addresses these issues as he calls his people to live as resident aliens on their journey home.

Many people believe that ministers are a special class of believers called to live a totally different and ‘holy’ kind of life. Peter shows us that all believers are “saints” and have been called out to live out their faith in all areas of our lives. According to the Bible an Uber Driver who safely transports passengers is as holy as a pastor who thoughtfully preaches a sermon. The bad reputation of many Christians can be overcome when they are known not for their arguments but for their joyful love and service in their everyday lives.

Hope is a powerful thing. Peter writes how a Christian’s hope drives him to live in a powerfully distinct way. God calls his followers to balance action with sobriety, a zeal for truth with with genuine love. Peter shows us how to live in a distinct way that shows people the beauty and power of God’s kingdom.

A follower of Jesus lives as a citizen of two cities: The city of man and the city of God. Though we are called to live faithfully in this city, we are never to forget that we are on a journey to our final home. 1 Peter tells us that we should never lose sight of our final destination. This perspective can give us peace, hope and joy even in the most difficult seasons of our life.

What does community in our digital, mobile and work obsessed age actually look like? The book of Ecclesiastes gives us the timeless wisdom of our need to be find meaningful friendships for our journey. Ecclesiastes shows us the power of holistic relationships that can keep us from an overworked and empty life.

What does intimate community really look like? The mystery of the Trinity is that God himself exists in a rich and intimate community. The Gospel is the Good News that God invites us into his community where we are unconditionally loved and accepted.
