God created the first home as a flourishing garden where mankind could thrive. But today the home is often a place of conflict, arguments and misplaced priorities. Proverbs gives us the ideal of what a modern home can look like as wives take an active role in making the home a thriving center of life. Ultimately home is something the we wait for as God our Father brings us to a new heavens and a new earth.

What does faith have to do with work? We live in a work-obsessed culture in which people are prone to overwork and to overly identify with their work. The book of Proverbs gives us wisdom to help keep work in perspective. Work can be a tremendous blessing that mirrors God’s work and God’s plan for this world. But Proverbs ultimately shows us our need to rest from our work and commit all of our work to our Creator and Savior.

Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday kicked off a series of events in a week that would change the world. Jesus reign causes conflicts as he cleanses the temple filled with false religion. Jesus’ coming forces us to confront all of our idolatry and superficial spirituality. But ultimately Jesus has come not merely to reign but to serve and heal his people in the ultimate way.

Everybody at some point in their life is in need of mentors and guides. Peter shows us our need for elders who are called to humbly lead God’s people. But he ultimately shows us our need for our true Leader, Jesus, who through the ups and downs of life will continue to lead us and will eventually restore us completely in glory.

We live in a culture that is awash in sex, drunkenness and chemical highs. Sometimes things are so bad in this life that all we can do is seek to escape. In contrast, Peter offers people another way to live. Peter calls people to turn from their self to living in a joyful community. He call people from living for nothing to seeking to be an instrument of the King who is renewing all things.

Increasingly people of faith are seen as out of touch, hypocritical and narrow-minded. How do you respond to people who are against you? Peter shows us the power of a good life, the power of thoughtful words and the power of pointing people away from ourselves to Jesus.
