This Sunday we welcome back Pastor Joel Lomman from Gospel Life Church in Fullarton. He will be sharing not only about church planting in general but about an the upcoming launch of a specific new church just up the road. We are really excited to get around what God is doing right across the Onkaparinga region.

Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesian church that in each local church — the world will see the very wisdom of God on display. Every church full of Jesus worshippers is a signpost pointing to the coming Kingdom of God— where evil is banished and goodness and love reign forever.

So to plant a new church is to raise yet another signpost. For more people to see, for more people to be in awe of God's love and kindness, for more people to worship Jesus in the very way they were made to.

Some of Jesus's very last words as he hung on the cross were a prayer to God the Father that He might forgive the people who killed and mocked Him. And given that He came to die for us--for those who hundreds of years later would believe in His Name-- that prayer of forgiveness was for us too.

So if that's true, why is it so hard for us to forgive other people who have hurt us? Jesus knew that the call to forgive was hard. That's why he talked about it a lot. And why we need to come back to His words and His example again and again.

It's time to talk about everybody's favourite topic: money. Jesus talked about money a lot. And so you might wonder what He (and the rest of the Bible) has to say about giving to the church or to meet other needs. Many Christians have been taught that the conversation stops and starts with the tithe--giving 10% of your income. But is that what the Bible actually says?

The first two take-aways from the first church sermon ever preached were these: repent and be baptised. And so for 2,000 years, Christians have lined up to be sprinkled and dunked in obedience to Christ's command. But how many of us really understand why Jesus and the apostles commanded every new believer to be baptised?

We hope you can join us this Sunday as we explore what it means to be baptised. And if you've never been baptised yourself (or you were as a baby and are thinking about being baptised as a believer), we hope to encourage you with what the Bible really says about passing through the water.

Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost. He forgives their sins on the basis of His death, and then adopts them into His family called the church. Anyone is saved is Jesus belongs to the church. But then what does that mean when it comes to attending and belonging to a real life local church?

We've come a long way from the days of guilt-based legalism around church attendance. But sadly, we've too easily exchanged the communal solidarity of regular church gathering for popping in and out when it suits our busy schedules. What does the Bible have to say about going to church? Isn't it enough to just be the church wherever we are?

Jesus didn't mess around when he said to His followers-- "If you love me, you'll obey my commandments." In other words, if you don't care much about knowing and doing what God would have you do, you can't honestly say that you love Him.

We know that we're not saved by works. We're saved by grace through the work of Christ. But we are saved for good works--the things God prepared in advance for you, and only you, to do. But what are those things and how do we know? How do we know which commands in the Bible are for us in 2023 and which ones have passed their use by date?
