Every Monday Maggie is joined by a special guest from the Center for American Progress Action Fund. Today we talk with Bobby Kogan, Senior Director of Federal Budget Policy, to discuss the upcoming budget reconciliation process, its significance, and how Republicans will try to change major policies through reconciliation, largely focused on tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and corporations. Bobby, known for simplifying complex topics, has held key economic policy roles in the Biden-Harris administration and worked with the Senate Budget Committee and Senators Patty Murray and Bernie Sanders.
Maggie is then joined by Dom Salvia for "In Case You Missed It," continuing the discussion about Donald Trump's historic sentencing today for fraud in New York, especially Trump's attorney's statement that there should never be any politically motivated prosecutions - you don't say, Todd. Maggie calls Judge Merchan a genius and Dom agrees. Find out why and tune in!

Kicking off the hour, Matenaer On Air speaks about what took place at the US Capitol 4 years ago and why we need to always remember the actions of those who tried to stand in the way of our elections and never give into the rewriting of those who stood by, supported and/or participated as "patriots" or "hostages".
After that on Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba, Madison Musician, Katie Scullin joins the show. Katie talks about what she has been doing over the past couple months. Katie shares she is writing and recording music for an album! Katie sings a song live in the studio titled "Sweet Escape."

Read Jack's most recent piece on the current and potential future status of the state's highest court here. With a current 4-3 liberal-conservative population and a liberal justice retiring, April's election will decide whether the current balance maintains or tips to the conservatives.
Then, on John and Gordy In the Morning, the guys talk with Pam Jahnke about the premiere of Green and Gold, the new movie shot in Wisconsin about the Green Bay Packers.
Next, on UpNorthNews Radio, Assembly Minority Leader Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) and new state Sen. Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi) discuss the opening of the new session of the Wisconsin Legislature. They had big hopes for bipartisan progress, now that fairer maps have made the Assembly and Senate more representative of Wisconsin voters. But Republicans have spent the week rushing to pass a voter suppression measure and even stripping away Democratic seats on committees.
Wrapping up the hour on the Maggie Daun Show, Maggie talks about one of her New Year intentions, not resolutions, of playing more. Maggie shares some of her favorite board games and takes calls and texts for recommendations about what games she can work into her intention to play more in 2025.

Guest: Terri BarrMaggie explains the biggest moments in the law from 2024 (aside from all the Donald Trump cases). Never heard of the Chevron doctrine? Well, the Supreme Court this past year just told big corporations that all it takes to defeat a regulation to keep the air clean, the water safe to drink, consumers protected, educational funding fair, etc. etc. etc., is a huge litigation war chest. Never mind that those pesky experts in the government might actually know something. Add to the mix the likely demise of "net neutrality" and the complete absence of any ethical standards for the Supreme Court, as well as a prolonged campaign to deny civil rights to certain people because of who they are, and things look grim. What happens if billionaires buy all the internet service providers and seize control of the dwindling number of information outlets? But take heart! Maggie explains in Hour 2.

On this, the day of President James Earl Carter's State Funeral, guest Joe Czarneski, a former Wisconsin Assemblyman, Wisconsin Senator, Milwaukee County Clerk, and Milwaukee County Board Supervisor, joins the show to pay tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter. (A link to Joe's memorialization for the Milwaukee County Democrats is below.) As a college student, Joe met Carter during his 1976 campaign, invited him to a party, and ended up being a lifelong supporter, meeting Carter and his wife many times through Joe's work with Habitat for Humanity. Joe shared his many very human experiences and cherished memories with the Carters -- including one involving a VERY small Chevy Vega.
Tom and Maggie, with caller input, spend the balance of the hour discussing Carter's more complicated presidential legacy, his indisputably extraordinary life's legacy, and the incredible juxtaposition between the incoming President and Carter.

Guests: Tom Palzewicz, Joe CzarneskiTom Palzewicz joins Maggie Daun every Thursday as her esteemed co-host. Today, they welcome Senator Tammy Baldwin to discuss the legislation she sponsored, signed this past Saturday by President Biden to place a monument dedicated to women's suffrage on the National Mall. Maggie then addresses a caller's question about "who is a woman."
Maggie next debunks Donald Trump's lies about the California wildfires. The fires are a matter of life and death and billions of dollars. As such, Trump's lies matter. Tom and Maggie discuss what we need to focus on in the coming Trump administration, as it cannot be each and every lie.
In the second half of the hour, Maggie and Tom explore why Supreme Court Justice Alito's phone call to Trump yesterday, on the very day Trump requested the Supreme Court's intervention to delay his sentencing in his New York state criminal fraud case, is a per se ethics violation and a betrayal of Alito's oath. Maggie explains why Congress should consider impeaching Alito, who may as well plant a Trump flag in his front yard. SHEESH!
