Today, Maggie broadcasts live from the WMDX studios in Madison with former US Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn! He was there while a violent mob stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. In the years since, he has been making sure everybody knows the truth of what happened on that day. Now that President Donald Trump has pardoned all of the criminals who beat police officers on J6, Harry Dunn's message is more important than ever.
At the bottom of the hour, we kick off a new weekly segment: State Slate with Dan Shafer! As Civic Media's Political Editor and the Founder of The Recombobulation Area, Dan is always keeping his eye on what matters to Wisconsinites. Most importantly, Wisconsin's supreme court race takes place on April first, and we all need to pay attention.

Then, fellow Civic Media host Dom Salvia joins the program for "In Case You Missed It" to recap some of the ABC's of what the second Trump Administration is going to do to the middle class. Maggie takes a look at the World Economic Forum in Davos as an example of how billionaires are calling the shots, not the We the People.

Guests: Dom Salvia, Shannon Baker-BranstetterMaggie starts the show taking a look at the comments made last July by now candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Judge Brad Schimel. Thanks to reporting from the New York Times, we have audio from GOP Meet & Greet events in Adams and Calumet County in July 2024 where Brad Schimel shared comments that seemingly pre-judge any case that would come before Schimel if he were to be elected to the state's highest court. Maggie breaks down Schimel's comments and shares why they are beyond the pale for someone running for any position in our judiciary, especially the state's highest court.

This hour of Civic Media Spotlight is all about community and the sports that bring Wisconsinites together.
On Maino & the Mayor, we have a very important conversation with Sarah Danahy, the Executive Director at Community for Hope of Greater Oshkosh. She talks about "Project Safeguard" and also the Suicide Survivor Loss Support Group that they facilitate. Great tips for people thinking about suicide or folks who are concerned about family or friends who may be thinking about suicide. We have wonderful organizations in our communities to help, and we love to spread the information.
Then, on Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba, Pete is joined by comedian and actor from Major League, Skip Griparis. Skip talks about his act featuring rock music. He also shares his experience on Major League with Bob Uecker, and talks touring with Olivia Newton John.
Then, on the Maggie Daun Show, Maggie honors a former Milwaukee Brewer who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Maggie brings some listeners to tears as she gives props to CC Sabathia and the incredible moment of shared joy and connection that he gave the state of Wisconsin on Sept 9, 2008.
Finally, on the John & Gordy Show, the guys are joined by Pat McBride, author of The Luckiest Boy In The World, to talk about working for the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers all at the same time, as a teenager. He also went on to medical school and is now a retired professor from the University of Wisconsin.

Guests: Maggie Daun, Pete Schwaba, John Maino, Jim Schmitt, Gordy Young, John Peterson, Pat McBride, Skip Griparis, Sarah DanahyIt was a busy news week around the state and country this week, here are a number of topics that Civic Media hosts shared how the news affected our communities around across Wisconsin this week.
Up first this hour, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul joins the Dom Salvia Show and cohost for the day Earl Ingram to discuss how and why Wisconsin joined a lawsuit against Donald Trump. In the first hours of his second Presidential term, Trump issued an Executive Order that would strip some born in the United States of citizenship. Of course, that directly violates Section 1 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution granting citizenship to all those born or naturalized in the US. Hence the lawsuit. In Kaul's words- a disastrous way to start his second term.
Then, on Matenaer On Air, Jane and Greg cover the pardons that were issued for everyone who took part in the January 6 insurrection, including those who were charged with violent offenses, on Donald Trumps first day back in the Oval Office. That is even after the administration said it would go over the cases thoroughly and wouldn't seek to pardon those convicted of violent crimes, the show discusses the people from Wisconsin who participated in the event.
Up next on this weekend's Spotlight, State Assembly Rep. Francesca Hong (D-Madison) talks to UpNorthNews Radio's Pat Kreitlow about the many issues to be debated during the new session of the Wisconsin Legislature—with a main emphasis on her “Healthy School Meals For All” proposal.
Finally, on the Todd Allbaugh Show, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported this week that CBS 58 in Milwaukee fired weather reporter Sam Kuffel for criticizing Elon Musk on her personal social media. While there may have been a legitimate reason to lay her off, the subsequent silence from CBS 58 speaks volumes. The Todd Allbaugh Show discusses this dangerous precedent set very early on in Donald Trump’s presidency. If media companies fire people in their weather departments for criticizing somebody who isn’t even an elected official, trust in news departments will likely deteriorate even further.

Guests: Jane Matenaer, Greg Bach, Francesca Hong, Pat Kreitlow, Earl Ingram, Josh Kaul, Todd Allbaugh, Dom SalviaAssistant Adjunct Professor Pat Sobkowski explains birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment and it's origins and import. When Maggie inquires whether a president has the authority to issue an executive order abolishing birthright citizenship, Professor Sobkowski firmly responds in the negative. We break news that a federal judge in Oregon just ruled that the president's Executive Order trying to do away with birthright citizenship is "blatantly unconstitutional."
Maggie then dissects and decimates Trump's other unconstitutional directives, including his attempts to threaten local law enforcement with up to a lifetime of imprisonment if they refuse to violate the constitution (10th Amendment, 4th, 5th, & 6th Amendment). Does Trump even care about the constitution? Did he ever intend to "support, uphold, and defend the constitution" as his Presidential oath requires? We think not!
Maggie breaks news that Senator Lisa Murkowski's will not support Pete Hegseth's confirmation as U.S. Defense Secretary.
Last, Maggie shares Mississippi's newly introduced law that attempts to prohibit men from masturbating ... wow. Just wow.

Guest: Pat SobkowskiMaggie drills down on Donald Trump's anemic first week's "executive Memorandum" on the housing crisis, spurred by a text from a listener yesterday. Turns out it is nothing more than generic garbage that will absolutely NOT help bring housing costs down or increase housing supply. Rather, DJT's promise to "deregulate" the housing market [what or how exactly, no one knows] will actually make this MUCH MUCH worse. Not to mention the stupid tariffs.
Then Maggie introduces Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez to talk about Governor Evers' "State of the State" address yesterday. Sara and Maggie discuss the things virtually all Wisconsinites want: more public education funding, affordable child care, and common sense gun regulation.
Last, Maggie defines performative politics, which is not an indictment of "political theatre," but is (1) self-aggrandizing, headline grabbing nonsense that has no impact [ego-stroking]; and (2) the use of power or leverage simply because you can, as a naked flex and/or regardless of the negative impacts of your flex [ego and control]. And Robin Vos is ALL performative politics.

Guest: Sara RodriguezSara Spain, Director of Strategic Communications at EMILY's list joins Maggie to discuss how to push back against trump's misogyny agenda. Stay engaged, keep the faith, and resist! Pro-choice women candidates, especially Susan Crawford for WI Supreme Court, help keep the fire in our bellies alive, and the issues most important to the middle class front and center.
Next, in Maggie's regular Wednesday 3:30 segment, "Over the Hump & Trump," she celebrates CC Sabathia's historic 2008 run with the Milwaukee Brewers and then zooms way out to remind us all about what it means to connect with one another. She ends by giving listeners an assignment for the coming week.

Guest: Sara SpainMaggie kicks off the show discussing the housing crisis in Wisconsin and across the country, which our new president has said can be solved by deregulation (NOT). Price gouging algorithms, private equity and hedge fund profiteering, consolidation, and the history of redlining and lending discrimination have combined in a perfect storm to make affordable housing a pipe dream for many and worse yet, an existential crisis for families struggling the most. Toss in race-bating rhetoric, NIMBY, and all the rest, and this president is nearly certain to fail the middle class when it comes to the thing we all need FIRST and FOREMOST - stable, safe, reliable, and affordable housing. Shame!
Maggie breaks news of the deadly school shooting in Nashville, TN earlier today.

Maggie continues to discuss the J6 pardons with callers. What a disgrace! Again, what's the message - mob justice is fine as long as it helps Trump? Would you feel safe if your skin was brown and your speech accented? And there is no valid, good faith comparison to actions by criminals that cloaked themselves in the mantle of BLM.
But Maggie gives us hope, rooted in our history.
We close out the hour with some cold weather fun.
