  • Fund The Schools, Not Elon Musk

Maggie welcome on Dr. Weadé James, Senior Director for K-12 Education Policy at the Center for American Progress, to chat all about the problems created by the school choice program - which is in reality an effort to privatize public education. Later, Maggie is joined by Dom Salvia, on at 4 with the Dom Salvia show, to dive back into the topic from last hour: Trump's tariffs, Elon Musk stealing the keys to the Treasury, and more shenanigans in the federal government.

  • Cowboy Carter

Maggie is back after a couple days off at the end of last week! Over the weekend were the 67th Grammy awards, at which Beyoncé was awarded Best Album, being only the 4th Black woman to receive it. In addition to talking up the successes of Beyoncé, Maggie covers comments from several women in their acceptance speeches, including Shakira, Chappell Roan, and others. Later, she begins diving into the issue of tariffs, and Trump's blunt, heavy-handed, and uninformed use of the antiquated economic tool.

  • Civic Media Spotlight for February 1st & 2nd (Hour 2)

To start off this hour of Civic Media Spotlight, we tune in to a segment from the Earl Ingram Show this week. Earl was joined by Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Judge Susan Crawford. They talk about what led her to choose her career path, the biggest issues she sees impacting this election, and how she hopes to navigate the highly partisan environment in Madison.

Then, on the Dom Salvia Show, Maggie Daun sticks around for the overtime with Dom to dig into the MEMO issued by Trump's White House stalling all federal loans and grants. Not an Executive Order. Not a directive to Congress to draft budget laws. A MEMO. Dom says the message is the chaos. Maggie says it's the fear. In truth, it's probably both.

After that on Maino & the Mayor, the director of the "Green and Gold Movie," Anders Lindwall, calls in to discuss the movie. Anders says that the movie is his heartfelt tribute to rural America's strength and perseverance. The movie stars Craig T. Nelson, and at its core, the movie is a tribute to the unsung heroes who shape communities and preserve traditions through kindness and hard work.

Last but not least, Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba welcomed filmmaker Nathan Deming to the show. Nathan talks about his upcoming film, February. Nathan shares dates and cities where the film is screening and Pete takes a Wisconsin based quiz that Nathan prepared.

  • Civic Media Spotlight for February 1st & 2nd (Hour 1)

To begin this hour of Civic Media Spotlight, we take the beginning of a conversation with former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn on the Maggie Daun Show. Harry joined Maggie this week in-studio to discuss the recently pardoned J6 felons and the other craziness going on during the first week of President Donald Trump’s second term.

Then, on a Wednesday edition of the Todd Allbaugh Show, Todd visits from Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project! On April 1st, Wisconsin will vote to elect a new state supreme court justice. Every day, we discover new reasons why conservative candidate Brad Schimel is completely unfit to serve our state. At a Republican community event last year, Schimel was caught on a mic calling for another “bloody revolution” to get American freedom back from “the socialists.”

Then, on UpNorthNews Radio this week, Pat discussed how some Wisconsin legislators are considering a new way to hide from taxpayers the true cost of the programs that give out taxpayer dollars for vouchers to private, often religious schools. He spoke to Chris Thiel, legislative policy specialist for Milwaukee Public Schools, about this new shell game that would force every Wisconsin taxpayer to fund two parallel school systems in the state.

Wrapping up this hour with a segment from the John & Gordy Show, the guys welcomed back Mike McCabe and the three spend some time on the topic of oligarchy. They also share how we need not despair right now, and that we can look to the future and plan to make some real advances as a society.

  • Pro Democracy Radio

In hour two, John and Gordy, filling in for Maggie today, talk JD Vance, and some of the insane billionaires who helped put him in power Curtis Yarvin and Peter Theil. With a few cuts from Rachel Maddow, we learn why these guys have spared a chunk of change to do away with democracy. We head to the phones for a bit to chat with CJ about "the rest of the story," and why he's rooting for Trump during this flurry of executive orders, throwing the country into chaos. Later, the guys welcome in Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign Nick Ramos to chat about the importance of taking a stand in tumultuous times, even when we're not at risk - because someday we might be. Practically, this means the people now being abducted by ICE - including people who are US citizens. Wrapping up the show, we look to the future with Nick, talking about what the WDC is up to, and what you can do to help democracy.

  • John and Gordy

Maggie is out for the day, and filling in are John Peterson and Gordy Young, the morning show team on Civic Media's Madison station. They chat with callers about the tragedy last night in DC, where a military helicopter crashed into a passenger airliner, and also discuss the disgusting decision by Trump to blame the crash on DEI. Later, John and Gordy are joined by Dan Shafer, Civic Media's Political Editor and founder of the Recombobulation Area. They chat with him about a new poll out by a conservative group on the standing of the SCOWI race, as we stand about two months out from election day. We cover some alarming comments by Brad Schimel, the conservative candidate, then shift gears to talking about the DNC chair vote coming up on Saturday. Wrapping up the hour, we get Dan's take on a reflection of RFK's confirmation hearings written by Tammy Baldwin - "RFK Jr. Is Bad For Our Health"

  • RFK Clown Show (Hour 2)

Maggie continues to dig into RFK's unfitness and takes callers. He's motivated only by attention and power (and money). What a grift!

Then Maggie is joined by James Beard-nominated most outstanding chef, Greg Leon, Executive Chef and owner of Amilinda in Milwaukee. They discuss connecting through food, as well as Tables Without Borders, celebrating immigrants and their native food, the first of four dinners coming up on February 17, 2025.

Last, Maggie appeals to public servants and all of us to stay the course.

  • Funding Flip Flop (Hour 1)

The Trump administration rescinds its garbage Office of Management & Budget memo from late Monday (after a federal judge late Tuesday halted its implementation pending a hearing this coming Monday), but the Press Secretary says that even though it's rescinded, it's still still in effect...what a clown show. Maggie discusses with Shawn Phetteplace of Main Street Alliance ([email protected]). They also discuss Robin Vos single-handed blockade of expanded and cheaper insurance coverage for Wisconsinites.

Next, Maggie jumps into the RFK, Jr. confirmation hearings. He is morally unfit and a total menace.

  • Why The Federal Funding Freeze Matters (Hour 2)

In today's second hour, Maggie lights her hair on fire and dives back into the biggest news of the day: the Trump administration's federal funding freeze. She breaks down the language of the order. Unsurprisingly, it is written in an incredibly vague manner, demonstrating the ineptitude of the authors. They clearly do not understand the legal process surrounding government funding. Despite the sloppiness of this order, it can and will have far-reaching consequences across the state, the nation and the world.

At the bottom of the hour, Maggie recites an address by Abraham Lincoln. This message emphasizes following law and order over individual preferences, which is diametrically opposed to the actions of the second Trump administration. The party of Lincoln has fallen a long way from grace.
