  • October 6 2021 - Paul Dolan (Vancouver Whitecaps FC Colour Analyst), Darren Dreger (NHL Insider/TSN), Jeff Paterson (Canucks Reporter)

Matt and Blake were pleased to welcome fellow Go Goat Sports family member, Darren Dreger to the show. Dregs started off by talking about how the landscape of the business has changed and why he is excited to join us on a weekly basis, every Wednesday. Pivoting from that, he talked about what he has heard on the Travis Hamonic file. Isn’t sure at this point if he will get over what he is dealing with. Doesn’t know the situation with Sutter. Talked about the job that the PA has done convincing players to get vaccinated. Not leaning one way or another with Hamonic. Doesn’t know enough about what he has been told. It’s such a difficult and delicate situation. Talked about Pettersson and Hughes and the ramifications within the organization or even league wide. It was an interesting reaction around the league and Dregs thinks that the Canucks did well with the deals. Some GM’s were surprised that both players didn’t come in on a bridge. Though, everyone thinks this was pretty fair all along. Talked about Brady Tkachuk. Dregs weighed into Evander Kane and the allegations that keep piling up, including the latest with falsifying a vaccination test. Says that nobody in the NHL or the Sharks want to touch this with a 10 foot pole. Says he just can’t stay out of the mud. Talked about Jack Eichel and the latest in his saga. Feels that the situation is moving. Timing is no one’s friend here. Whoever ends up with him is probably going to lose this year’s service. There have been many grenades that the PA has had to dodge over the last year. Hasn’t heard anything recently that the PA should be on alert to replace Don Fehr.

Paul Dolan, TSN Whitecaps Colour Commentator joined the show to help set up a big World Cup Qualifying window for Canada’s Mens National Team. Started off by talking about Max Crepeau and the opportunity he has in front of him to start for Canada. The team is in good position as there is no pressure there. He has already been here before, in the gold cup. It’s the perfect storm for him to show up and do well. Dolie thinks he will be call upon in the game quite a bit. If Max can get a good run of games, you could see a change moving forward. Talked about the Canadian efforts vs Mexico in the Gold Cup. They probably should have win, and that was without Davies. Paul went down memory lane to talk about some of the results that were positive, even if it was a loss. Shifted to the Whitecaps and what they are up against vs Seattle this weekend. Paul likes what he has seen from this team with Vanni at the helm. The manager doesn’t feel like they are missing anything with Crepeau out of the lineup.

Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson joined in his regular spot and started off by talking about what he saw from Podkolzin last night. Says 2nd period was easily his best of period of the season, not that it was a high bar. Talked about some of the guys who are auditioning that aren’t getting the job done. Talked about where they like Chiasson. Needs a contract first but there is a nice little nugget with him as a PP1 guy. JPat said it was nice to see EP40 ripping one-timers at the net, despite catching Demko up high. Ian Clark went over to have a word with him about keeping it low. Talked about Nic Petan. He has a willingness to do whatever it takes to stay in the NHL. He isn’t the same player he broke into the NHL with. Talked about players the team moved on from today.

  • October 5 2021 - Ryan Clark (The Athletic Seattle Kraken Reporter), Patrick Johnston (Post Media Canucks Reporter), Jeff Paterson (Rink Wide Co-Host)

Ryan Clark, Kraken beat writer for the Athletic joined Matt and Blake to talk about the big opener on the horizon for Seattle. He started talking about how the team will fit into the market. Ryan ran down the preseason schedule for the team and without their building being ready, they have been to a number of different cities in Washington. Talked about game-day presentation and if it will have a Seahawks feel to it. Talked about Jared McCann and how he is a player you keep hearing about. He could be the kind of player who could be a dividends for the Kraken. Talked about the comparisons to the Canucks and if fans around there think that they can be competitive. He says at minimum, the team can be in the Wild Card discussion. Sekeres threw 5 rapid fire questions at him that you will want to hear.

Patrick Johnston of Post Media joined the guys ahead of the first ever appearance of the Kraken in Vancouver. He talked about the team opening up tickets for 100% capacity. Talked about his chat with Michael Doyle, President, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. PJ gave us his thought on the signing of 40&43.

Jeff Paterson joined in his regular spot. Started off talking about seeing 40&43 back on the ice. He confirmed that they did complete a bag skate. JPat talked about the morning press conference that pitted Travis Green vs the media. Travis may have been upset that it went about 12 minutes. Moved on from that by talking about Jack Rathbone and if he has made the team, against how TG makes it seem when he talks about him. Thinks the team wants to keep the thumb on him. Doesn’t expect that he will play all 7 games but it could happen. JPat and the guys looked ahead to the preseason game vs the Kraken and who needs to DO SOMETHING!

  • October 4 2021 - Charean Williams (NFL Insider), John Shannon (NHL Insider), Jeff Paterson (Canucks Reporter)

The show kicked off today starting with Matt Sekeres and Blake Price talking about the finalizing of the contracts of Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. They talk about 40 only signing a 3 year deal and what it could look like for him at the conclusion of the deal.

The ‘Welcome Matt’ was on the weekend that was for Vancouver Sports and what we now know about the fabric of our local teams.

Charean Williams joined the guys after a busy week 4 and started talking about the Sunday Nighter, between Brady v Belichick. Says it was really a boring game and didn’t end the way you would want a game of that ilk to end. Charean talked about what it would have taken for an ending that you would have wanted. A little disappointing the way it played out with Brady not getting any TD passes, despite breaking the overall yards record. She thinks we saw a little bit of Brady not being able to control his emotions and that is when we see him at his worst. Rain could have played a part of that. She talked about the Seahawks and how big a win it was for them over the weekend. You don’t want to lose division games with that being the tie breaker. It will all come down to that. Thought they handled it real well. Talked about the Cardinals and that Kyler Murray would be at the top of the MVP list, thought she knows it’s only four weeks in… Talked about Monday Nighter and who needs its more.

John Shannon, joined the show and started talking about the the Jays coming up a little short in their bid for the post-season. Following that John offers his thoughts on what could be a tough season for Bettman and all the PR issues that his office will need to manage. He says that the players union will also be in a bit of damage control. Talks about Ambien and its role in the game. Talked about the Lehner tweets and John wonders if this could reflect poorly on Nolan Patrick and if he might be the source behind the comments. John asks how much of this is on the player compared to the trainer who may provide it. The league is going to have to pay attention and not stick their head in the sand. Talked about the signing of 40&43. Talked about if Brady Tkachuk might be getting lonely on the island and what kind of contract he might be looking for. With the three of them getting into detail about where both Tkachuk’s could eventually end up with all their connections, even past their father.

Jeff Paterson joined Matt and Blake in his regular spot and after a busy weekend, started talking about Brock Boeser and when we might see him back. JPat talked about the effort of Nils Höglander over the weekend. Said the Jets didn’t come close to touching him in the first period. Talked about how fun he is to watch in person. In reference to Boeser being out, it’s not as simple as asking for one winger to replace that line. Who know’s what they do with JT Miller as he will be more of a hybrid player for them. Talked about the game presentation from yesterday and how it stacks up compared to other teams. Noted that it was only Hughes that thanks Benning and the Canucks and not EP40. Talked about cuts to the team and the likes of Jett Woo and Klimovich. JPat doesn’t think Chiasson has done enough to earn and NHL contract. It would be a preferred option to scour the waiver wire to find a suitable option. They are looking hard at their special teams options.

The Price is Right kicks off the show and gives a tip of the cap to the work that Jim Benning did in getting his two stars locked up to new very cap friendly contracts.

Seahawks insider Gregg Bell joins the show and tells us about how the Mariners have finally captured the Seattle market and gives a preview of the ‘Hawks tilt in San Francisco on Sunday.

Rick Dhaliwal joins for his weekly hit and talks about how mind boggling the negotiation process was between the Canucks and CAA, and why he can’t figure out exactly what’s happening with Travis Hamonic.

  • September 30 2021 - Alwyn Morris (Indigenous Olympic Gold Medalist), Thomas Drance (The Athletic), Alex Nelson (BC Sports Hall of Fame), Jeff Paterson (Canucks Reporter)

On the inaugural day of Truth and Reconciliation, Olympic Champion, Alwyn Morris joined Matt and Blake to talk to him about his thoughts on this day. Alwyn talked about what he hopes this day can become in the future and what it is right now. He talked about his top of the podium moment where he raised an eagle feather. Alwyn talked about why he did it and what went into the iconic moment. It was a very important sharing moment and talked about the memory of his grandfather, who didn’t get to see it before he passed. Explained that some people equated it to the black power movement, even though that was not at all meant to be the case. Talked about if he faced any backlash from the IOC, as you wouldn’t be able to do that these days. Alwyn talked about running the torch in 2009 en route to the 2010 games and what it was like to have his mother and children with him. He talked about the origins of his career and how it intertwined with him working with non-indigenous athletes and how that’s what reconciliation really means to him. When two people with two different backgrounds can get together and work together.

Alex Nelson, member of the Musgamagw – Tsawatainuek tribes of the Kwakwala- speaking people and member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame joined Matt and Blake to talk about what this day means to him. Says that we are all so close and one family. We see Canada as one country, one province and one city. In his mind we are all one. He talked about being a Residential School survivor. Talked about being a founder of the Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Association and how sport has helped him along his journey. Still playing soccer at age 73, you can’t help but think it has helped him.

Thomas Drance of the Athletic joined Matt and Blake and started off, after getting past SB halftime shows, talking about advances in negotiations for 40&43. He has heard that there has been progress which is different from what he has heard in the days leading up. Isn’t calling it a breakthrough yet. There has been frustration behind the scenes with both sides believing that they have given everything they have. Clearly one side has blinked, giving cautious optimism. Talked about the Hamonic situation.

JPat in his regular spot started chatting about how the Canucks addressed truth and reconciliation day. Shortly after he came on, the smoke was starting to heat up on Pettersson and Hughes. The guys go into the numbers that the they are looking to sign for. Both term and money.

Rick Dhaliwal joined the show last minute after there was some movement on the Pettersson and Hughes negotiations. Said that if he is Travis Green, he would be pretty pissed. Talked about the numbers. Rick talked about all the guys that aren’t here is tough. As soon as Dahlin’s contract was finished, there was more movement with Hughes. These are two elite players who want to play. Looks like they will announce the deals tonight.
