Clare Gardaí are urging caution on the roads in what they've described as the most challenging winter conditions in recent years. It comes as subzero conditions are persisting across the county, with temperatures of minus three degrees recorded in the county overnight. Tipperary recorded the coldest temperature of almost 6 degrees. An orange weather warning remains in place until 10 o'clock this morning and motorists have been advised to avoid driving altogether, unless absolutely necessary. Another orange alert comes into effect at 6 o’clock this evening until 11 tomorrow, with temperatures as low as minus ten degrees expected in some places, while Met Éireann has also extended a yellow alert until midday on Friday. Gardaí say those who find themselves having to use their vehicles should ensure windows are demisted, carry an ice scraper, use dipped headlights, avoid harsh steering and braking, and stay in the highest gear possible. Head of the Roads Policing Unit of the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division Superintendent Eddie Golden says pedestrians should also be conscious of their safety.
