A Clare TD has pledged to re-examine the case for an Economic Strategic Development Zone in south Clare once she's established in her new role. Shannon-based Sinn Féin Deputy Donna McGettigan is just one of two newly-elected TDs to be appointed to her party's front bench and will serve as Spokesperson for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for the duration of this Dáil term. The University of Limerick recently withdrew its joint application with Clare County Council for an Economic Strategic Development Zone on lands north of its campus which it was estimated would create over 3,500 jobs. Among the reasons cited by UL for this was a lack of progress on the Northern Distributor Road but Deputy McGettigan says recent developments could change the picture.
