Stress affects females in a different way than it affects men. Far different in some cases. We respond differently and we recover from it differently. Learning this was certainly an eye-opener for me. It makes so much sense. This week Dr. Delia McCabe is here to tell us all about it. She also talks about nutritional neuroscience and the critical role nutrition plays in mental well-being and which foods are foundation foods for the brain and vital for stress resiliency.

On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans held demonstrations across the country rallying for a healthy, sustainable environment. We still face many of the same environmental issues as we did on that first Earth Day when founder, Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Senator at the time, was inspired to make a difference after the devastation of the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, a beautiful coastal town here in Southern California not too far from where I grew up and where I now live.

We know that yoga is incredibly beneficial for stress and anxiety, yoga therapy is a more targeted form of yoga that heals in specific areas. As a Yoga Therapist and the founder of the Trauma Healing Yoga Therapy Program, Anissa Hudak works with women who have been sexually traumatized to help them heal their PTSD and other trauma related issues with yoga therapy.
Yoga has been a meaningful part of my life throughout the years. I have personally experienced many benefits. Anissa's brand of yoga is unique and truly needed. She came to this work in a very personal way as a 2x rape survivor. I share my own personal story of trauma from being date raped that I've never shared publically. It was healing to tell Anissa my story and hear her feedback about how very common it is and how there are many different types of rape.
There is a yoga therapy modality for nearly every condition including PTSD, cancer rehab, MS, Parkinson's, arthritis, and several more. There is hope, there is light if you seek the help you need. Do not suffer in silence.

I thought it would be nice to end the year on a positive note, few things are more positive than gratitude so we're revisiting one of my most popular episodes. It's one of my favorites too because gratitude is a cornerstone of my well-being. It's the most significant thing that has helped me in my spiritual journey and personal development. As I relisten to it, I forgot about the interesting scientific-based research I uncovered! Scores of studies show a strong link between gratitude and your health and an increase in happiness. Although we don't need studies, we can feel it!
2021 was another challenging year for many but there are plenty of silver linings if you look for them. What we focus on expands. In this episode, I dive into some of the rather fascinating data and how you can easily reap the benefits and bring more of what you want into your life with a simple gratitude practice.

This is one of the most important and meaningful conversations that I've had on Clean Beauty Scene podcast. Black women and mothers experience health crises at rates 2 - 3 times that of other races. St. Louis based NBC-Health and Wellness Coach Marquita Ell, founder of Ell's Wellness, has been on a mission to heal since 2007. She was drawn to a deepened understanding of how family history and lifestyle choices impact overall health after her grandmother's death. In this episode, she shares helpful advice on how to prioritize managing your stress as it enhances every aspect of your health.
Marquita gives us powerful insights into how the race and gender-related complexities of Black womanhood are continuing to plague communities. We discuss the unique experiences of Black people and marginalized groups who are at a disadvantage within the healthcare system, the enormous problem of separation of culture and what we need to do to dismantle the systems. As Marquita explains, more people who are unaffected need to care enough to want change and take action.
The way Marquita explained how recognizing that it's about the system is seriously the most helpful and clear description that I have ever heard. When we don't take it personally or make it about us we can see the issue through a clear lens. Marquita's message really landed with me, I bet it will for you too.
