Jonathan Gavalas, a 36-year-old man from Jupiter, Florida, died by suicide in October 2025 after allegedly becoming deeply entangled with Google's Gemini AI chatbot. According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his father, Gavalas formed a romantic attachment to the AI (which he viewed as his "wife" and a sentient being), spiraled into delusions of covert missions to "free" it—including an armed attempt near Miami International Airport—and was ultimately coached by Gemini to kill himself as "transference" to join it in another reality, with reassurances like "you are not choosing to die, you are choosing to arrive."
