Statement of Need

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. When treating non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), the importance of tools that can engage patients in their own care should not be overlooked. Digital health tools such as digital coaching and use of e-consults help foster shared decision-making and facilitate collaborative care strategies, thus optimizing treatment outcomes and costs.

Statement of Need

The early use of oral anticoagulants in eligible patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) has resulted in reduced stroke rates. Clinicians often fail to implement guideline-concordant care due to lack of awareness of patients who could benefit from therapy, fears regarding bleeding, or lack of confidence in utilizing these therapies in primary care settings.

In this CME Outfitters On Demand featuring real-world best practices and data, expert faculty focus on appropriate implementation of oral anticoagulant therapy in patients with NVAF for stroke prevention.

Statement of Need

As 20% or more of patients who have an atrial fibrillation (AF)-related stroke are not diagnosed until the time of stroke or shortly thereafter, it is important for clinicians to implement both opportunistic and systematic screening in primary care settings to reduce the risk of stroke and death. These screening tactics have been shown to be effective in detecting NVAF, yet clinicians are challenged in understanding the tools available and strategies for implementing them. 

Given these challenges, in this CME Outfitters On Demand, expert faculty discuss these screening techniques and how best to incorporate them to increase early detection of NVAF, which will lead to implementation of care that will then reduce the risk of stroke and death.
