Discovery and AT&T received a long-awaited green light from the Justice Department on Wednesday, driving the two companies closer to completing Discovery's takeover of WarnerMedia. 

AT&T is planning to spin off CNN and the rest of WarnerMedia in the coming months, at which point Discovery will merge with WarnerMedia, creating a new juggernaut of streaming and cable content. 

The final necessary step is a vote by Discovery shareholders. It is expected to take place in the coming weeks and is regarded as a formality.

The White House has approved a plan presented by the Pentagon for the nearly 2,000 US troops in Poland to help Americans who may try to evacuate Ukraine if Russia invades, according to two US officials familiar with the matter.

The US forces are not currently authorized to enter Ukraine itself if a war breaks out, and there are no plans for them to conduct a noncombatant evacuation operation akin to the US operation in Afghanistan last summer, the officials emphasized.Instead, the plan as it now stands is that the troops, who are from the 82nd Airborne Division, will begin setting up processing areas and temporary shelters inside Poland near Ukraine's border where Americans fleeing Ukraine could go for help while in transit. The facilities have not yet been stood up, one defense official said, but will start to be as more US troops arrive in Poland.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that the White House had approved the Pentagon's plan.

Hyundai and Kia are telling owners of almost 500,000 cars and SUVs in the United States to park outside and away from buildings due to a possible defect that can cause the vehicles to spontaneously catch fire even when not running. 

The problem is that, due to "foreign contaminants," the anti-lock brake computer control module can short circuit and possibly start a fire in the engine compartment.  

Hyundai issued a recall for 2016-2018 model year Santa Fe SUVs, 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sport SUVs, 2019 Santa Fe XL models and 2014-2015 Tucson SUVs. Kia is recalling 2016-2018 K900 sedans and 2014-2016 Sportage SUVs. In total, Hyundai is recallng 357,830 vehicles while Kia is recalling 126,747.

Police in Minnesota announced Tuesday that they have arrested a teen in connection with the homicide investigation in which police serving a no-knock warrant shot and killed Amir Locke, a 22-year-old black man, on February 2.

The St. Paul police said in a press release that the 17-year-old male, who was wanted in connection with a January 10 fatal shooting in the city, was arrested Monday afternoon in Winona, Minnesota.

The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday and included films in a wide range of genres.

"The Power of the Dog" led among nominated films with 12 nods. The drama's director, Jane Campion, made history by becoming the first woman to be nominated more than once for best director. (Her previous nod was for "The Piano.")

Fellow directing nominee Steven Spielberg also set a new record. As producer of "West Side Story," which earned a total of seven nominations, Spielberg has now produced 11 films nominated for best picture, a new record for the Oscars.

The Academy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, March 27.
