The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol has issued a resolution recommending that the House of Representatives find Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump's chief of staff, in contempt of Congress.

The resolution comes after the panel informed Meadows last week that it has "no choice" but to advance criminal contempt proceedings against him given that he has decided to no longer cooperate.

Officials now fear the death toll from the devastating tornadoes Friday and Saturday across parts of the central and southern United States could exceed 80.

Jeff Bezos' rocket company, Blue Origin, has sent "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan, the daughter of famed astronaut Alan Shepard, and four paying customers on a supersonic joy ride to the edge of space.

The crew took off aboard one of Blue Origin’s suborbital space tourism rockets, called New Shepard, at 10:01 a.m. ET from the company’s launch facilities near the rural town of Van Horn, Texas, where Bezos owns a sprawling ranch.

Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, whose father Alan Shepard went on a suborbital flight in 1961 and later walked on the moon, rode alongside investors Dylan Taylor, Evan Dick, and Lane Bess, as well as Bess' adult child, Cameron Bess — all of whom paid for their seats.

Actor Jussie Smollett has been found guilty on five of six felony counts of disorderly conduct for making a false report to Chicago police that he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019, an attack prosecutors said he staged.

The jury of six men and six women deliberated for more than nine hours over Wednesday and Thursday.

A disorderly conduct charge for a false crime report is a Class 4 felony and punishable by up to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Cook County Judge James Linn will have discretion in imposing a concurrent or consecutive sentence for each count at a later date.

The FDA on Thursday authorized the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for use as a booster in people ages 16 and 17.

It's the first Covid-19 vaccine booster authorized for this age group in the United States.

Just as with adults, 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to receive a booster dose six months after their second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

About 2.6 million US teens in this age group would be eligible for boosters already -- a small addition to the 141 million adults already eligible for boosters.
