Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin was convicted Tuesday on charges of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

The jury of five men and seven women deliberated for four hours Monday afternoon and resumed deliberating Tuesday morning, according to the court. They were sequestered from the public during deliberations.

Chauvin, 45, had pleaded not guilty to second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Europe's medicines regulator said it has found a possible link between the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and rare blood clots, but emphasized that the overall benefits of getting the shot outweigh the risks.

The news, announced Tuesday, threw another complicating factor into the European Union's vaccination rollout and dealt a major blow to the company a week after its vaccine was paused in the United States.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded that "a warning about unusual blood clots with low blood platelets should be added to the product information" about the vaccine given to patients.

Walter "Fritz" Mondale, who served as vice president under then-President Jimmy Carter before waging his own unsuccessful White House bid in 1984, has died, according to family spokesperson Kathy Tunheim. He was 93. 

Mondale died at home in downtown Minneapolis, Tunheim said, surrounded by family.

US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick suffered strokes and died of natural causes one day after responding to the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, Washington DC's chief medical examiner has determined.

The medical examiner, Francisco Diaz, didn't note any evidence that Sicknick had an allergic reaction to chemical spray or list any internal or external injuries, according to The Washington Post, which first reported the ruling. Still, Diaz told the newspaper that "all that transpired" on January 6 "played a role in his condition."

The ruling all but ensures that the Justice Department won't be able to pursue homicide charges in Sicknick's death.

The Ingenuity helicopter has successfully completed its historic flight on Mars and safely landed back on the surface, according to NASA.

The first powered, controlled flight on another planet took place at 3:30 a.m. ET.

Police arrived "to a very chaotic scene, with victims and witnesses running everywhere" at a FedEx Ground facility near Indianapolis' main airport late Thursday night, where a former employee shot and killed eight people and wounded others, an Indianapolis police official told CNN.

Indianapolis police on Friday afternoon identified the gunman as 19-year-old Brandon Hole, who was last employed by FedEx in 2020, said Deputy Chief Craig McCartt.
