A critical care nurse was the first person in New York and among the first people in the United States to get a shot of the coronavirus vaccine authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Sandra Lindsay, an ICU nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York City, was administered a shot during a live video at about 9:20 a.m. ET Monday. She said the shot didn't feel any different than any other vaccine.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield has accepted an advisory committee's recommendation that the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine may be given to people ages 16 and older, meaning that shots of the vaccine can now be administered in the United States.

The decision comes the same day that the first batch of vaccines was loaded onto trucks at a Pfizer plant in Michigan, and shipped out across the country on Sunday morning.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has voted to recommend the Pfizer and BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for people age 16 and older, moving the United States one step closer to vaccination of millions of people.

Eleven members of the committee voted in favor and three recused.

Vaccines cannot be administered until CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield accepts the committee's recommendation, which is expected to take place within hours.

Pfizer has told reporters covering its rollout that it expects the first shipments of its Covid-19 vaccine to leave the Michigan facility Sunday morning.

The company originally predicted trucks rolling “within 24 hours” of Food and Drug Administration authorization.

The company did not provide an explanation for the later timeline.

The US Food and Drug Administration has authorized Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine for emergency use in the United States.

The FDA announced on Friday that an EUA had been granted, following the recommendation of its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee.

On Thursday, 17 committee members voted yes to recommended that the FDA issue an EUA for the vaccine. Four voted no and one abstained from voting..

The Supreme Court rejected a bid from Texas' attorney general -- supported by President Donald Trump -- to block the ballots of millions of voters in battleground states that went in favor of President-elect Joe Biden.

The Senate on Friday passed a one-week stopgap funding bill by voice vote to avert a government shutdown at midnight. The bill will next go to President Donald Trump for his signature. 

The short-term spending bill would extend government funding by a week to December 18 and is aimed at giving lawmakers more time to reach an agreement on Covid relief and broader funding legislation for a new fiscal year. It passed the House earlier this week.

The US Food and Drug Administration's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted Thursday to recommend the agency grant emergency use authorization to Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine.

Seventeen members voted yes, four voted no and one abstained.

This vote doesn't mean the vaccine will be authorized immediately.

The FDA will now decide whether to accept the recommendation but has signaled that it will issue the EUA for the vaccine.

President-elect Joe Biden is expected to nominate Katherine Tai as US Trade Representative, three sources familiar with the decision confirmed to CNN.

Tai currently is the top Democratic trade counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee and oversaw trade enforcement for China during the Obama administration.

As an Asian-American, she is the latest diverse figure expected to be named to a Cabinet-level post in the incoming Biden administration. If confirmed, Tai would be the first woman of color to serve in the role.

After pausing in the months before the election, federal authorities are now actively investigating the business dealings of Hunter Biden, a person with knowledge of the probe says. His father the President-elect is not implicated.

Now that the election is over, the investigation is entering a new phase. Federal prosecutors in Delaware, working with the IRS Criminal Investigation agency and the FBI, are taking overt steps such as issuing subpoenas and seeking interviews, the person with knowledge says.

Activity in the investigation had been largely dormant in recent months due to Justice Department guidelines prohibiting overt actions that could affect an election, the person said.

CNN contacted Biden's attorney and the campaign this week seeking comment about the investigation. On Wednesday they released a statement acknowledging the probe.
