  • Co-creating Peace Episode #35 - Terms to Know

Welcome to “Terms to Know” – Episode #35 of Co-creating Peace, a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

In previous episodes of this podcast, I talked about the importance of being mindful of how we use words. In times of change and unrest, such as the times we are in now, new terms often emerge to help us to better understand the world around us and one another, while other terms that have been around for awhile take on new importance.

In this episode, I have invited my dear friend Hollis to help clarify some terms we are hearing a lot these days, but which are often misused, such as equity and equality, which are often mistakenly used interchangeably, as are the words gender and sex. He will also talk about the importance of the use of appropriate pronouns, and clarify terms that are often misunderstood, such as transgender and gender identity.

Hollis Benjamin uses he/him pronouns. He has a BA in Behavioral Science and a Masters of Social Work degree. Hollis is currently earning a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Public Management, and is considering a doctorate in education with a focus in organizational leadership in a few years. He has strong interests in racial justice, cross-cultural capacity building, and overarching social justice issues.

Welcome to Peacemaking 101, Episode #34 of Co-creating Peace, a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

He is the co-founder of the non-profit NM Men’s Wellness, now 35 years strong, whose focus is to create a safe space for men to gather to share the joys and challenges of being masculine in today's world.

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #33 - Walking Through the Blueprint of We - A Way to Co-create Relationships

Welcome to “Walking Through the Blueprint - A Way to Co-create Relationships” - Episode #33 of Co-creating Peace – a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

In Episode #16 of Co-creating Peace, I interviewed Sheella Mierson and Rachel Eryn Kalish about The Blueprint of We Process. They described the Blueprint of We and gave examples of where and how it is used. At the end of that interview, I wanted to know more, and am delighted to bring Sheella Mierson back. This time, rather than my interviewing her, she will work with Ron Person, who is writing his Blueprint, in order to demonstrate the process.

In Episode #40, you can hear Part 2 of this process as Sheella and Ron continue their work together, completing Ron's Blueprint.

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #32 – What Is Mediation?

Welcome to “What Is Mediation?”, Episode #32 of Co-creating Peace – a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

I’ve mentioned mediation in some of the previous episodes of this podcast, but I haven’t talked a lot about what mediation is, and how it compares to other methods of resolving or addressing conflict. Managing conflict and resolving conflict are two different things, and I’ll talk about that as I tell you about mediation and other ways of approaching conflict without violence.

I also share some questions to ask yourself to determine if mediation is right for you & your situation, and some good questions to ask a prospective mediator before engaging them for your mediation.
If you'd like copies of those questions, please email me at: [email protected].

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #29 - “The Power of the Positive”

Welcome to “The Power of the Positive”, Episode #29 of Co-creating Peace – a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

This episode builds upon what I discussed in Episode #14 on re-framing our perspective.

Our experience and perspective of life is dramatically affected – positively or negatively – by what we choose to focus on, how we choose to interpret that, and how we choose to respond. The same is true for our experience and perspective of other people. We make our choices in life based on those interpretations, and we create our reality accordingly.

The “Power of the Positive” is about focusing on the things that are positive in life, in people, in situations – even in the presence of the aspects we see as detrimental or undesirable in those same things. From that foundation of positive focus, we can experience and perpetuate far more joy and empowerment. We can respond in constructive ways to what life presents us.

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #28 - Fostering Evolution, The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback

Welcome to “Fostering Evolution – The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback”, Episode #28 of Co-creating Peace – a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

One of the most powerful gifts we can receive is reflection of how others see and experience us. When that reflection is positive, we feel validated. When that reflection shows us something we don’t want to recognize in ourself, or is delivered in a way that is uncomfortable or unpleasant for us, we are inclined to reject or close off to that reflection, even though there may be opportunities there for us to learn and grow if we would be willing to examine and work with that reflection. In this episode, we’ll explore this dynamic and look at ways to give and receive feedback that foster personal growth and evolution.

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #27 - Values Based Decision-making: The Ethical Heart of a Healthy Organization

Welcome to “Values Based Decision Making: The Ethical Heart of a Healthy Organization”, Episode #27  of Co-creating Peace.

My friend and fellow mediator, Mark Bennett, is joining me again today. You may recall the wonderful conversation that Mark and I had in Episode #21 about his most recent book, Uniting by Design. In Uniting by Design, he updated the process from his previous book on Values-Based Decision Making as one of the cornerstone practices of Creative Collaboration. Today, we will look at this critical dimension of organizational functioning: Ethical Decision-making.

  • Co-creating Peace Episode #26 - Longing for Yesteryear

Welcome to “Longing for Yesteryear” - Episode 26 of Co-creating Peace – a series about conscious communication and conflict transformation.

In recent months, I have received many letters from listeners, some seeking advice, others sharing what happened when they tried some of the tools I’ve talked about in this podcast. Some of the letters seeking advice have similar themes, so I decided to share them in theme groups. The letters I’ll read and respond to today share the theme of communication issues and conflict around resistance to change, which is why I titled this episode “Longing for Yesteryear”.
