A judge Friday denied a request by the parents of Michigan high school shooting suspect Ethan Crumbley to reduce their bond from $500,000 each, citing among other things their initial failure to turn themselves in.

Attorneys for James and Jennifer Crumbley -- charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the deadly November shooting at Oxford High School -- had asked the judge to reduce the bond to $100,000 each.

Oakland County Judge Julie Nicholson denied the request after a hearing attended by the couple through video conference, each from separate rooms in jail.

A prospective medical student has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship after spotting a cancerous mole on the neck of a staff member during a hockey game and showing him a message on her phone, telling him to see a doctor.

Brian “Red” Hamilton is the equipment manager for the Vancouver Canucks NHL team and was working behind the bench for their game against the newly-formed Seattle Kraken in October when he noticed a fan trying to get his attention. Kraken fan Nadia Popovici showed him a message on her phone, telling him he should see a doctor about the mole on his neck as she suspected it could be cancerous.

A video of a far-right anti-masker harassing a California patisserie employee over the establishment's no-mask no-service policy and comparing it to being oppressed in Germany is being widely circulated on social media.

Christina Kelso filmed herself walking into Patisserie Angelica – a Parisian-style bakeshop in Sebastopol, California – claiming she was just trying to buy some croissants.

Kelly Ernby, a political newcomer who ran for an Orange County state Assembly seat two years ago as a Republican, died this week of COVID-19. In addition to political activism, she worked for 10 years as an O.C. deputy district attorney.

Ernby, a Huntington Beach resident, was 46.

“The Orange County district attorney’s office is utterly heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Deputy Dist. Atty. Kelly Ernby,” Dist. Atty. Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “Kelly was an incredibly vibrant and passionate attorney who cared deeply about the work that we do as prosecutors — and deeply about the community we all fight so hard to protect.”

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The investigation continues into the death of 37-year-old Jason Walker following an incident with an off-duty Cumberland County deputy.

While authorities investigate, others marched and protested for the second day, demanding answers in Walker's death.

"We need to let these elected officials know, we need to let the chief of police, the sheriff know that we're standing together in solidarity, that this is not OK -- that this happened In our own backyard," said Myah Warren, an activist and march organizer. "So, for us not to make noise when we made noise for George Floyd for Breonna Taylor it would be hypocritical."

https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2022/1/5/22865725/kyrie-irving-nets-vaccine-road-games-only-explained

Kyrie Irving is one of the greatest players of his generation. The 6’3 point guard made one of the most iconic shots in recent NBA history with his clutch three-pointer in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals to help the Cleveland Cavaliers pull off a historic upset of the 73-win Golden State Warriors. While LeBron James rightfully gets a lot of the credit for that championship, Cleveland’s comeback from a 3-1 deficit couldn’t have happened without Irving, who averaged more than 27 points per game for the series.

Irving has been something of a vagabond since demanding a trade from the Cavs two years later. He was ultimately considered a disappointment in his two seasons with the Boston Celtics before joining Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. Irving was playing some of his best ball for the Nets last season — he was named All-NBA for the second time in his career — before he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Game 4 of the team’s second round series against the Milwaukee Bucks.
