  • Mhara Starling on Speaking with the Fairies - Divination in Welsh Tradition

    Send us Fan Mail

My guest in this episode is Mhara Starling, a Welsh folk Witch raised on the Isle of Anglesey. Mhara is a fantastic speaker, teacher, and author, and I met her for the first time at the Sacred Space conference this past year. It was wonderful to have her on the show!

In this conversation, we focused on Welsh Fairy lore and practices, and how that living tradition of relationship meets the arts of divination: omen-reading, scrying, working with the land, and ethics and good boundaries for working with Fairies in the modern world.
I really appreciated learning from Mhara in this show, and I hope you enjoy the discussion.  If you do, as always, please share this episode with others, and subscribe for more videos and some exciting new "extra" content in coming months!

  • Pilgrimage, Philosophy, and Pagan Wisdom with Dr. Gwendolyn Reece

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I’m joined by Dr. Gwendolyn Reece: Pagan priestess, theosophist, witch, and author of "The Waters of Mnemosyne." We discuss her wonderful new book, her work leading sacred pilgrimages to Greece, and her role in fostering deep spiritual community through ritual, scholarship, and devotion.

Our discussion touched on sacred memory in Orphic traditions, household religion and community, philosophy and living a good, human life, and the ways modern polytheists and mystics are reclaiming wisdom traditions. These are all topics that both Gwendolyn and I are very passionate about, and I really enjoyed hearing her thoughts and expertise regarding all of it. I hope you do as well!

  • Peter Mark Adams on Mithras, Orphism, and Paths of Initiation

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, I'm joined once again by author and esoteric scholar Peter Mark Adams, whose newest work - Ritual and Epiphany in the Mysteries of Mithras: The Secret Cult of Saturn in Imperial Rome - offers a profound look into one of the most enigmatic mystery traditions of the ancient world.

We explore the sacred cosmology of Mithras, the structure and symbolism of the cult’s initiatory grades, and how these rites relate to the broader lineage of Orphic and Platonic spirituality. Along the way, we discuss ritual space, visionary experiences, and how these ancient practices can inform and aid seekers and practitioners today.

Please note: Later in the episode, we also touch on topics such as entheogens, intense ritual work, and transformational spiritual practices. Neither Peter nor I are medical professionals, nor do we endorse any illegal activities, and all listeners should thoroughly research and approach these topics with caution, and seek the advice of licensed experts.

  • Sacred Travel, Divination, and Spirits of the Land with Elyse Welles

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, it was wonderful to speak with my friend and fellow Priestess, Elyse Welles. Elyse is a Witch, sacred travel leader, and the author behind Seeking Numina. Elyse is also the co-host of the Magick Kitchen Podcast, a top spirituality podcast where she shares wisdom on Witchcraft, ritual, and more.

In today's episode, we talked about the act of pilgrimage to ancient sites in Greece, divination, and devotional relationships with Land spirits and Gods. Elyse travels widely, and her experiences helping others seek connection to Spirit made for an excellent conversation.

After this episode was recorded back in April, Elyse and I also spent 10 days in Greece together, researching and visiting oracular sites dedicated to Apollo and Zeus. If you'd like to hear our discussion of that trip on Elyse's Seeking Numina show (recorded at Dodona, under the sacred Oak of Zeus) you can click the link in the show notes!

    Send us Fan Mail

In this latest episode, it was wonderful to welcome back John Michael Greer, a prolific author, teacher, and practitioner of the esoteric arts. We dive into the fascinating world of tarot and explore his work with his late teacher, John Gilbert, whose insights and teachings JMG edited and published in The Doors of Tarot. He shares reflections on Gilbert’s unique approach to tarot, and we discuss our views of patterns and spreads in readings, how divination can be best approached when just starting out, and what made Gilbert's teachings so unique and impactful. I really enjoyed the conversation, and reading The Doors of Tarot, which I absolutely recommend.

Later in the episode, we also shift gears to discuss the fundamentals of mundane astrology—using the stars to explore the patterns of global events. A particularly interesting topic as we start the new year!
