Today's episode on employee engagement and last week's episode on transient hypofrontality if you caught that one, or both conversations with Scott Salsman who's been on the podcast before, but I wanted to give you a quick note that we recorded these episodes over a year ago. I pulled it out of the archives because it seemed relevant, given the recent podcast episode where I talked about Amy Edmondson and Kim Scott's article on psychological safety. Today's episode touches on psychological safety as well from Dr. Kahn's perspective, who is also a leader in the field.

I came across an article this morning co-authored by two of my favorite women in the leadership space, Amy Edmondson and Kim Scott – and since this podcast is about actionable leadership development that you can integrate into your day, that's how I started my day and thought I want to share this with you right now.

So Amy's work on psychological safety is brilliant and Kim Scott's book on radical candor, if you've read it, is a game changer for leaders and teams, and that is what I want to talk to you about today. So their article on the intersection of those two fields of Kim's work on radical candor and communication and Amy's field of psychological safety and where those intersect this caught my eye. For the past three years, most of us have felt like we are leading in uncertainty, and it's a collective experience that we have because of the global pandemic that hit in March of 2020 and the change and transition in marketplaces ever since then. Welcome back to Coffee on Leadership. Today we are in week two of a three part series where I'm focusing on the framework I utilize behind the scenes called the ABCs of Leadership Development. Last week, we laid out authentic leadership, where the focus is very much on you as the leader. It's all about self awareness and personal development. So go back and listen. But authenticity cannot live on its own,  leaders have to then step out and be authentic leaders and that takes bravery. So that's where we are tuning in today – brave leadership is about doing the right thing in hard circumstances. It's about the way you engage with the people and teams around you. It's about emotional awareness and intelligence that you can call upon. Authentic leadership is you and your personal leadership journey, the internal work, but brave leadership is the external journey. I frame it that it's the relationship with who you lead, and the impact you have with those who you lead.
