The thief on the cross has often been used as a weak argument by those who reject the importance of baptism. It's surprising to me because this argument is easily refuted. Upon closer examination, the thief argument falls apart. Even if you strongly disagree with the idea of baptism being essential for salvation, using the thief's example as evidence is not a good argument.

One of the more hotly contested passages in Scripture is Epheians 2:8-10. It is the sugar stick of the "Faith Only" crowd and it is very poorly handled many who believe that one must obey in order to be saved. It is almost as if it is used as a sugar stick on both sides.
